Hurrah !
I wonder if it'll actually happen, he can command his price can't he ?
Good for him :-)

OH YES!!.........let's hope it comes off! Nothing against Toby but I did enjoy it best of all when Alan was there. :o)))))

6 Nov, 2009

Wow.......
As you seem up-to-date with the news..
.... have you heard who will inherit Alan's 3pm afternoon TV show...?
or will Alan multi-task ? Lol.

6 Nov, 2009

:o(((((

6 Nov, 2009

~I have never watched his afternoon show~ just don't watch itv I find especially not in the afternoon, but maybe he will be able to do both?
Toby is nice and all that but definitely isn't Alan!

6 Nov, 2009

Didn't say I had watched the afternoon show.. LOL.
Just wondered who might inherit it... he he he

6 Nov, 2009

Yyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh :)

6 Nov, 2009

~ what I meant TT was that I don't even know what it is like?has it been a success or will they just let it drop?Weird time to put it on?Maybe if it isn't doing that terribly well he might be glad to return to the Beeb!~done a lot of work for them over the years!

6 Nov, 2009

There would be a lot of negotiating to do on fees and then I don't know if it really works going back in life. As much as I prefer ATs presenting I think their mistake has been trying to introduce younger characters to host it.
Geoff H, Monty D and Alan T were all a bit more mature than current hosts in attitude as well as age. I feel they were trying to attract a younger audience and it hasn't paid off.
Wonder what it would be like with Nigel Colborn, Medwyn Williams or Martin Fish presenting for a change !

6 Nov, 2009

Just hope the format changes back too!

6 Nov, 2009

I think that Alan would definitely boost the viewing figures and that their Country tracks and Countryfile progrmmes will benefit from catching the younger viewers interest in Autumn and Springwatch~I don't think that Alan would have any trouble in going back ~he was doing all the RHS shows whilst Monty Don was in charge on Gardeners World,Chris Packham is starting to grow on me as he knows his stuff on animals etc!

6 Nov, 2009

Will they move Gardeners' World to yet another new garden ???

6 Nov, 2009

Who knows! who owns the current one?~maybe they will keep Toby as well so that he could benefit from someone with lots of experience and character and get to take over but he was never my first choice anyway~ I know she is not a gardener and will have her hands full at the RSPB but I like Kate Humble who has a much younger fan base!

6 Nov, 2009

I've heard Carol Klein is getting her own shows ?
Is that just a rumour ?

Carol Klein to present Life And Death In A Cottage Garden

Gardeners' World expert Carol Klein has landed her very own series called Life And Death In A Cottage Garden.

The BBC2 show will guide viewers through the seasons at Glebe Cottage, her Devon home, and give a "back to basics" approach to horticulture.

"Lots of people feel left out of gardening shows but in this series the mystery is taken out of the mystique, leaving the magic," she explains.

6 Nov, 2009

Thanks Amblealice for the notification will look forward to it also Carol Kleins.

6 Nov, 2009

Yeah bring on Alan!!

6 Nov, 2009

I think he will be able to do both as he does his afternoon show in the winter months, and when he does his last show at the end he always says is trowel is calling him, have to admit i sometimes watch his afternoon show if i'm doing nothing else, and it is quite good, but looking forward to Carol Kleins new programme.

6 Nov, 2009

I might even start watching GW again! :-))

6 Nov, 2009

Oh this would be welcome news if it were true! Like you Spritzhenry, I drifted away from GW when Alan stopped presenting. The others just didn't do it for me!

Here is the article from the mail
Titchmarsh to dig Gardeners' World out of its rut with dramatic return

By Paul Revoir
Last updated at 8:26 AM on 06th November 2009

Alan Titchmarsh

lan Titchmarsh is poised to make a dramatic return to Gardeners' World after fans panned the show's recent relaunch.

The 60-year-old presenter is in advanced discussions with the BBC to reprise the presenting role he held between 1996 and 2002.

An announcement could be made in a matter of days, insiders say.

Earlier this spring the show was relaunched to much fanfare with a new main presenter, Toby Buckland, at a base in Birmingham.

Buckland replaced Monty Don, 53, who stepped down after suffering a minor stroke.

However, insiders admit the fan base has not taken to Buckland or the new format.

Complaints include that the show is too 'trendy' and has been dumbed down.

The BBC has reportedly been courting Titchmarsh for some months with the offer of a six-figure salary, in the hope that he will again become a major 'face' of the corporation.

Gardeners' World is one part of a package of programmes they want him to front. An insider said: 'This does not necessarily mean that Toby is out.

'It is a team presenting show. There are various ways it can be cut. But it is fair to say there have been discussions with Titchmarsh.'

The BBC will have to find a way around the presenter's busy schedule if the deal is to come off.
Toby Buckland

Cheers: Toby Buckland was announced as the new main presenter of Gardeners' World in the spring after taking over from Monty Don

Titchmarsh has commitments to his popular ITV talk show. It has just been announced that he is doing a country walks series for the broadcaster as well. However, he is not on an exclusive deal at ITV.

A source close to Titchmarsh said: 'The BBC are courting him very heavily. They are all over him.

'I know he would love to get his hands dirty again and I know he would like to do more gardening again.'

Hope they do get him back, just cannot stand it at the moment and will look out for Carol`s show as well. Might contact Auntie Beeb and suggest if they can`t afford Alan`s price at the moment then give Jonathan Ross a lot less in his paypacket, that could work..lol.......

6 Nov, 2009

I do hope they manage to get Alan back - I like his style. The programme's just not the same since he left. I thought Monty knew his stuff but he wasn't Alan!

6 Nov, 2009

Apparently its not GW the BBC are talking to AT about...its other presenting opportunities...They will announce something next week, supposedly......

6 Nov, 2009

~ well they might as well pull GW in that case!

6 Nov, 2009

Oh shame I do like Alan`s other shows as well but agree with Arlene as regards GW.......

6 Nov, 2009

Yup....If Alan's doing something new....and Carol's new series......not much point to GW...don't think their viewing figures will be worth their transmitting it....

6 Nov, 2009

I don't think the problem with Toby is his age (he's not that young, you know, about the same age as Geoff Hamilton when he started doing the show), its just he doesn't have that certain something that carries well on screen - he seems slightly awkward and stilted compared to Alan, who comes across as warm and friendly and ordinary, and Geoff Hamilton, who came across as really enthusiastic yet down to earth and sensible. And as that report was in the Mail, well, who knows - it was the Daily Mail who suggested we hadn't enough water in the south cos all the immigrants were drinking it...lol...

6 Nov, 2009

~ says it all Bamboo!made me laugh!

6 Nov, 2009

I have a theory that the powers that be at the BBC...those who decide which types of garden show to broadcast... read GoY and all the comments.......
..... so BBC.... what do you think of this blog so far ? Lol.

6 Nov, 2009

~ having a nervous breakdown TT!

6 Nov, 2009

Who is ? Auntie BBC ? Lol.

6 Nov, 2009

Yes~ I think that Bamboo is right about Toby~ no charisma unfortuntely!

6 Nov, 2009

Let's hope the Daily Mail's not monitoring this either...;-))

6 Nov, 2009

Lol....I was so excited when I read about Mr T in today's Mail, I slopped coffee all over the paper :((

6 Nov, 2009

Well, it's gotta be useful for something, and soaking up coffee's probably good...

6 Nov, 2009

LOL :))

6 Nov, 2009

In the next Gardeners' World programme, the main ingredient in compost making will be coffee-soaked Daily Mails. :o)

6 Nov, 2009

The quiz pages are good, Bamboo - let's not get political about this. :-)

6 Nov, 2009

I like Alan, but Toby's really good,i like the new format, and we have to move forward rather back wards ....

6 Nov, 2009

Oh I'm not, Wagger - I buy it every Saturday for the large crossword, and the magazine on Saturday is the best tv guide. I even read it sometimes, just for the laugh... but I don't think,by and large, it can be taken seriously, do you? (Though there are worse papers, of course...)

6 Nov, 2009

I suppose no more than the Daily Sport, lol.

6 Nov, 2009

This has brought back a memory - my inlaws used to have delivered their Sunday papers - one was the Sunday Times, and the other was the News of the World! I could never understand why, but I suppose one was for entertainment and the other for serious news.

6 Nov, 2009

I thought your knees would wobble Di:))))) we will just have to wait and see what the Beeb announces.....they have our "attention"...for a change....lol

6 Nov, 2009

Agree with Bamboo that it is the character that matters.
Good news about Carol Kleins programme.
The point at which I realised I couldn't do with GW anymore was when they tarted up the shed. That's when it stopped being a must see for me.
If AT does make a comeback to GW it will make a big difference

6 Nov, 2009

Alan always inspired me after watching his GW progs but Toby doesn't do it for me at all!

6 Nov, 2009

Living in Yorkshire probably biased always liked ATs approach but feel hes forgotten his roots - sorry no pun intended for once ..an afternoon chat show ?

Hosting Chelsea ? Nay lad you d have dear Geoffrey Smith so upset were he still with us ..

We now have a list of winners of Gardener of the Year why not visit their gardens rather than isolate growing conditions in a made for TV garden ..often when money no object .AT often waxes lyrical about the joys of clipping a hedge with shears so much kinder to the enviroment and your neighbours he says ...right you cut your acres with shears ?

Then jumps on his Ransome ride on mower costing all of £20 ,000 grr if you want things back to basics for us to re discover the joys of simple gardening ..then practise what you preach .I think he deserves to serve some penance get him to cut his lawn with a push mower then perhaps I ll watch.

Me ? I think Rachel de Thame was good ..no not just the fact shes rather pretty ..so much better than Sarah Raven who made you feel you were getting a garden lecture from a lady who lunched ..Carol lovely of course not sure she actually wants the hectic GW schedule .

6 Nov, 2009

My top three garden presenters

Geoff Hamilton
Roy Lancaster
Geoffrey Smith

Talking about Rachel de Thame Bonkers, does anyone remember the lovely Rebecca Pow who was a co presenter with Roy Lancaster and Mathew Biggs on channel 4's Garden or Gardening Club, some years ago ?

7 Nov, 2009

Rebecca Pow....now that is a name from the past....wonder what happened to her?

7 Nov, 2009

Anyone interested in keeping up to date with shows of interest to gardeners on the main TV channels, I list these every Saturday or Sunday on my blog #21. :o)

7 Nov, 2009

~ I think that Alan was looking to wind down and try something else once he hit 60 but now feels he made a mistake and wants to get back?
I did think that thy were going to get Matthew Wilson who is in charge at Rosemoor in Devon but he never said he wanted the job? I think he is better off doing what he does!

7 Nov, 2009

Maybe Alan will get the Ground Force team back together...
... Charlie Dimmock and Tommy Walsh. Lol. :o)

7 Nov, 2009

Anyone remember Gay Search? (sounds like something on Google now! lol) I used to like her a lot.
I agree Wagger, excellent puzzle pages in Daily Mail, a friend passes them on, just received a big batch!

7 Nov, 2009

Aye Bluespruce ..vaguely so searched for her found near Taunton still giving garden lectures at £200 a time ..tea at Spritzs then ? Sorry Lily over lapped there ..I meant Rebecca Pow. Yes do remember Gay..

7 Nov, 2009

I agree with Bluespruce re the 3 gardeners. They were/are all down to earth knowledgeable men who got me hooked on gardening.
I have Geum Bell Bank which was bred by Geoffrey Smith which I have treasured for years. It felt even more special when I read an RHS article by Roy Lancaster in which he espoused the merits of it :~)))))))
Such is my regard for them and the things they have to say and teach

7 Nov, 2009

What a lineup, Bluespruce. All three absolute stars in different ways - top of my tree!
Gay Search - her only claim to fame before GW was living in the same road(Cranley Drive) as the Krogers of the Portland Spy Ring.
I used to enjoy Garden Club - quirky little programme from 'ordinary' people's gardens, some of them were quite remarkable.

7 Nov, 2009

Agreed Wagger, I always liked to see other peoples gardens, and you would have Roy Lancaster actually discussing the merits of any particular plant in those gardens. - Thank god I still have them all on video tape

7 Nov, 2009

Bonkers, interesting about Rebecca Pow, always fancied her something rotten! - £200... almost worth it to see that gorgeous face again
Gay Search...very bland and no personality.
