About me

I have a small garden which is packed full of mainly herbaceous plants. I love roses and have a bed full of them. I have been working on a new shady bed (until my neighbour cut down the tree that was giving it shade!!). However it is working well up to now - fingers crossed. I have a greenhouse which is always full...I had a large streptocarpus collection - about 35 plants but I lost most of them in January when the trip....well tripped, while we were away. A friend kindly replaced some but I have not had the chance to build them up - due to lack of space. I have been trialling plants and seeds for one of the big growers and the greenhouse has been stretched to its limit.
I live on the coast of beautiful Northumberland and am a gardening volunteer at the amazing Alnwick Garden and have been for 6 years. Through them I am studying for an NVQ in amenity horticultur which I am enjoying greatly. I am a regular contributor for one of the gardening newspapers, writing a monthly piece on my garden and...I knit in my spare (ha.ha) time for a local woolshop. I am on a waiting list for an allotment and there are 4 people in front of me in the queue.
I also love dahlias. I have a friend who shows at Harrogate and he has given me lots of cuttings of show plants. I also got some from a big grower that lives not too far away. I was hoping to have my allotment by now to grow them.....but.....it was not to be and have about 80 plants in big pots and in the borders to tend over the summer.....help!!!
