Alpine Garden

Last year I decided that as my front garden suffered from prevailling North East/East winds…..an alpine bed would be a good idea……….I am very pleased with its progress so far :-))

Lovely colours - never thought of planting Alpines, might try some for edging of a border - are they hardy?

18 May, 2011

Yes indeed Annelise....you might find the odd one is a bit tender....but in the main, they come from very cold, rocky areas and are hardy....

Thank you TT.....it will be while before it is as colourful as yours:-))

What type of soil do you have in your alpine bed ?
acidic ?

18 May, 2011

Only slightly TT....we have reasonable clay soil up here. When I set the bed up I added some bags of top soil to lighten it up a bit..One area by the front door was VERY heavy so I forked in lots of grit.....

The area is looking lovely...
Good idea to improve the drainage :o)
