Something that I heard in a tv interview has stayed with me through the years - A blind man was asked about his 'disability' and he said that he thought of it more as a gift, as it gave him the ability to know people from how they acted & spoke rather than forming preconcieved notions that the rest of us do, therefore he was never limited in his human experiences by appearances, race, etc.
A wise man...

Good for you Leigh !
I understand you because I come from a very snobbish familly - well my mother's side anyway. They're unbelievable. Used to look down their noses at us because of where we lived etc. And especially me because i wore jeans and woudn't wear a tie, and because I liked being in the garden. lol I don't have much to do with them now.
I like drawing and pottery too and I think yours are great.
Congratulations on winning !

A great atmospheric photo.

Don't know about the herbal ciggies for your health....I caught my son smoking oregano a few years ago. It turned him green (not literally, just in the face). Serves him right!!!! LOL.

nice blog liegh. it explains a lot....lol
i dye my hair realy bright pink red purple...i've done it for years. years ago 'certain' types of people made 'certain' judgemants about me. i've noticed over the years that people are far more acepting than they were. i now get loads of smiles from all types of people.

Angie! That's naughty! Tut tut....Bad girl!

Maybe it's herbal one for your health, Leigh???? Made from dried herbs from your garden, maybe????

I can think of far worse things than tobbaco that you could be smoking in that rollie Leigh! lol - just wish i could quit - tobbaco that is - the other is long since left behind me! lol

Many congrats Leigh,
Talent shows itself with or without formal or even informal training. I cannot draw but I find other ways to express that need and I hope have an appreciation of what's good. I have been looking at your art as you have posted it over the last few months and I really like it, it's good and just that little bit different. Very nice.
My father was an artist, but did not pursue it as a career (he was a chemical engineer) and he always felt a bit envious of anyone who could.
As for the funny looks etc. well, they can only understand what they know, and they just don't know you! I'm sure if they did they would like you. Some are just too narrow minded, isn't it interesting that so many of us say our kids or grandkids are just like you. You are ahead of your time!!
Oh yeah, my son gets the strange looks when we are out, mostly from older women... he has a gorgeous head of long thick, curly hair. They are jealous! : )

Congratulations and well done Leigh.

We love the photos.

Don't worry about them not talking to you at the event -you were sending them very positive messages through your work and your great talents!

All best wishes, and wishing you continuing success in the future.
Grenville and Alan.

I think 'the boy done good'! I am very, very pleased for you, Leigh, and you showed them! They shouldn't be judging YOU - just your work.

BTW - stop smoking - don't you know it's bad for you!!!!!!!! No more photos of you with a ciggie - this is Grandma telling you off - LOL.

Hay Leigh, Good on You, you must feel Proud as Punch, and Melly, and before i got to the bottom of your Blog, I justKnew you'd Won....Fanflippintastic.. I feel Proud also, your a talented Brilliant Artist, and a really Canny (geordie speak) Bloke :)))))) .. Love Dee..

Hi Leigh, Thanks very much for all your advice on my recent question, i like the more Acers idea - i have a bit of a fetish for them anyway lol. i really enjoyed reeding your blog, it just goes to show that you should never judge a book by its cover, and congratulations on winning first prize, and looking at your photos i can well see why, they are BRILLIANT! i think you will find that everyone on here is very friendly, we all have a bit of a laugh and help each other out with advice, and it is really good to be able to have a nose at what others are doing in the garden, i am sure you will fit in just fine. not too many snobs about, well none that i know of anyway lol.

Awww, Leigh, you don't look so bad. You look like quite a nice fella. So what if you have tatoos and piercings. So do my kids. Anyone who holds doors open for people and has general courtesy is a rare find these days.
Don't worry about the snobs in the world. Its them that are losing out on so many wonderful experiences in life. People like that must have very "young souls" and haven't yet learned to look beyond what they see with their eyes.
Your artwork is wonderful. And I love the pic of the 3 dogs on the couch. Sooo cute.
~ Gilli

Leigh, I admire your beautiful artwork. It is absolutely wonderful...I also love the way your garden is shaping up to reflect your own personality and sense of self. You see, that is what makes you who you are. All those other (snobs) have no sense of self except as it is defined by the acceptable behaviors of society (and we all know that that definition is as shallow as it gets) Continue to be yourself and create that which fulfills your inner self. You are like a butterfly that has broken out of the cacoon which society tries to encase everyone in....spread your wings....be yourself....

I agree with Jacque and Amy. why on earth do so many people think we should all be sheep. Its nice to stand out from the crowd, and you have all that talent to boot. Well done you , keep it up Leigh

Yes leigh...... Congrats I,m so pleased for you , that showed them Ha Ha ..

I don,t think we will see so much of that attitude in the future because we are such a mixed bunch now , express ourselves more openly , different cultures etc.
