Well, I was thinking about just the ones in the Uk - but now you've suggested it, that's a brilliant idea! Even better - could get a big double decker (preferably red) and pick of GoYers en route and tour the world! Would be just like Summer Holiday...but with gardens and nice people and trans-continental. Now there's an idea.......... :-D

I was a cashier myself at a DIY chain store here in the states, I don't know if you know it, called "Home Depot". When they hired me I didn't know much at all about the stock. I took time to learn what we had and where it was in the big store. Some customers even helped with this when I was new. So I guess some responsibility does have to go to the individual employee because if you want to learn about the stock, you can, most just can't be bothered to make the effort!
The company even provided videos about the different depts and even some on how to do certain things that customers buy and want to do, like repair toilets, lay tile, hang wallpaper etc. You just had to watch them and learn, most cashiers I worked with didn't bother. I thought I was interesting and I learned a LOT!

Wish I could come - but Norfolk a long way away - there's several GoY gardens I'd like to visit - might have to hire a camper van and tour around them all one summer! Ha - I wish! :-D

oh yes I've watched them a couple times but there is of course nothing 'real' about reality tv, something my students seem to have a hard time grasping sometimes...! lol

I can answer that one for you Hywel.
It is because they will work for less, the stores don't want to pay as much as an experienced and knowledgable person would be paid. I have just quit asking for help and advice in stores. I do research ahead online and already know what I want and which store has it before I even go in. I even use the self check out, cause I'm better at it then the cashiers! : )

well done. If I lived nearer I'd come too.

I've had that experience too of shop people not knowing about the plants they sell. I can't understand why they're taken on to work there.

Hey Leigh congrats - I loved the drawing of the husky and the little boy, you're very talented! Your tattoos do look a little scary (especially the skull on the back of your head! That must have hurt!) but you have a very kind face and people shouldn't judge others by how they look anyway...have you ever seen Miami Ink or LA Ink? they're reality shows on cable about tattoo shops and the people who come get tattoos...don't know if they show them in the UK though.

Well done, love your garden & sculptures, wish i lived a bit closer so i could see it next year.

It's amazing how you manage to put your artistic talents into your garden - it surely must be a unique place. How big is the actual garden?

Great blog NP. The sculpting adds so much to make your garden unique. I love it.
Years ago I was in a TINY town in Oklahoma and I saw a little house that had all of the front of the fence made out of tools, I had to stop and ask about it. The old man said he had just filled in the chain link fence panels with welded together tools, hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, all kinds of things. It was very cool and literally stopped traffic, which I guess in that town was no big deal. I still remember that house, made quite an impression! : )

Good blog NP , you are right about some of these people not knowing anything about the plants .
I was in Homebase at the weekend and couldn,t resist a peep at the house plants ,
They were selling some pretty ones off cheap for £2 so I decided to have one .
Not knowing anything about them I went to ask an assistant , she didn,t have a clue ,
We looked at the instructions for the care of it and I very quickly realized that every single houseplant in the store had the same instructions , It didn,t matter what kind of plant it was they were all the same , whenI told her this .. she laughed and said .. " yes , it,s silly isn,t it "

It seems all kinds of plants and animals can "make bubbles" ~ think of pond life, for instance.
Not sure about budgies ... still researching that one :o)

People shouldn,t be judged on their outsides, but what they are on they are on their insides,if that makes any sense.
I am in my late sixties and even though my outsde shows my age.inside I am still a hippy chick from the sixties.
So BE COOL MAN!!!!! AND PEACE TO ALL

NP, sitting on a treestump, in the middle of a wood, on his own, with a distant look in his eye, next to a load of mushrooms, smoking something unexplained. What conclusions can I spring to here?! lol.

On photo - not a bad ofice

Hi NP - good to see you back on GoY - fab blog - I wish I had been there to see their faces! The Husky is amazing - I love the yellow background - sets everything off a treat and makes me think of the land of the midnight sun :-) Your win was richly deserved me thinks ;-) I like your tatooes and your shaved head - but I'm not sure about the piercings - makes me think: OUCH!! ;-D

Top marks for a top man. you showed em, i would love to get one over the snobs as you have done.

Well done, brilliant achievement.
I like the pic of you leaning on a post best, and the one of you and your princess.
I still covet your elephant creation. That was such a lovely shape!
