Lori:

Such beautiful tulip! I wish I could grow them here...I've tried and they just don't grow very well. Plus, the bulbs have to be lifted and put in the refrigerator in Fall or Winter I'm not sure when...anyway they are difficult.

Thanks everyone! These reds have finished and the Mentons are now blooming! I love them because they are later, taller and a beautiful peachy pink on the outside, but if you look down into the cup they're brilliant red inside!!

I suppose if you really really had to have tulips you could force them, as we sometimes do....If you have a root cellar you could be well on your way to having tulips...(in containers), D1. but I would imagine you will treat tulips as I treat delonix or papaya or musa....I'd just love to have them....but...LOL

Lori:

That's funny!

They can be grown here...however, the bulbs only last one season because the bulb are purchased pre-chilled. I left some bulbs in the ground until the next season and they grew very deformed-looking then died.

Well D1...you have to do what we often do with bulbs..once the foliage has died down, we lift them and store them over the cold period (in your case too warm winter months) in a cool root cellar. But in your case.. If you have an old refrigerator in the cabana or garage you could lift them, let them dry off keep them in a paper bag and put them in the fridge for three months!! then plant them up in containers. You just do what we do in reverse...I have calla lily corms that I must treat like that...I want the flowers so I must do the tasks...lol.

Lori:

That's very true if one wants to grow a plant bad enough...there's always a way.
