Hiii Jacque, lovely photos, you must be so chuffed with the way your wildlife area is progressing :-) Hasnt it been glorious today - it was beautiful as we were shovelling our 20 tons of shale, lol.

Good to have a wild garden, we should all have one....sadly not very pratical in our case. Lovely pics as usual.

1 Apr, 2009

I agree DD, the wildlife doesn't like us being tidy, but as you say, not always convenient. I find having 'scruffy' areas to be an excuse for helping them :-)

Looks nice Jacque..........i like to see things in there natural state....growing wild....

beauty is beauty .you cant take that away from anything beautifull.as alan titshmarsh said a weed is a plant in the wrong place

2 Apr, 2009

Alan who? What have you got on your mind Nosey?

2 Apr, 2009

Ahhhh Jacque, you're a woman after my own heart! I've had to chastise my hubby, he wanted to cut the grass this week, but I told him no, he's got to wait. The insects need the lawn at the moment!

We've got a small area planned for a wildflower garden. But have yet to dig up the grass. It will probably shock our neighbours but I've long since given up caring what other people think. I would have given over my entire front garden to wildflowers but hubby reckons neighbours would be too outraged. Bring down the "class" so to speak!!

Thanks for the lovely photo's!

btw, we have a year old rabbit. Can he eat the dandelion heads? I've got confused with not giving rabbits something coz it gives them the runs (sorry, can't spell diahorrea?)

Craftnutter - rabbits love dandelions - think it's clover they're not meant to get too much of .... is that it Jac?

3 Apr, 2009

Dandelions Flowers or Leafs do no harm your rite Sid just make sure their from your garden & not Road sides where they may have been sprayed with weed killer,Dont ever give Lettuce it can poision your Bunny :( Clover is good to in Small amounts as its very fatting lol :) stay away from Cabbage 2 as it can give tummy upsets in Rabbits & make their stools very lose, Toast,Stale Bread & a Handful of Fresh Grass is always a winner Cnr ;)

3 Apr, 2009

Ah, thanks Sid and Jacque, I've written down in my notebook what you've said. My memory is not always that good. The rabbit books never really tell you what is and what is not good for them!

Keep up the wild garden Jacque. I started one last year and although I have a much smaller garden than you I set a couple of teasels which, being biennial, should flower and have their cones this year. I have a small patch of stinging nettles and am going to put the phalecia's there when they are ready. I'm already grateful for my compost bins as they are home to woodlice, slow-worms and mice.

sounds good toto

Fantastic photos Jacque. I feel really guilty now for ripping the dandelions out of the flowerbeds; I will from now on see them in a totally different view. Great photo, would make an excellent picture, blown up and on the wall of my yellow room. With regards to rabbits, my seven love dandelion leaves, but I always believed they should not have the flowers or stems. As Jacque advised, don't pick them from roadsides or even fields that may have been sprayed. Gardenmad1 - my forget me nots are just appearing, I have an abundance of dandelions. May is usually the most colourful time in my garden, the forget me nots are flourishing and the rhododendrons are in full bloom against two trees, one with pink blossom, and one with white. One day I will find out what they are! I will make sure I take photos as the full effect only lasts about a week, but doubt they will match the standard of Jacques fantastic photos.
