This morning’s heavy frost had me reaching for my new camera again so please bear with me……..it may have put paid to the few lingering remnants of summer but looked so pretty that I couldn’t resist. Having taken lots of pics I just HAD to share some of them……..

First stop was the only remaining Begonia Semperflorens of summer which has since turned to mush but certainly put on a beautiful finale

In contrast the pansies, although hanging their heads, will soon recover

The cyclamen seem unperturbed and still standing up proudly

Heuchera, Euonymous and Choisya Sundance all have that little extra ‘something’

Swansong from the last geranium too, I think

Flowerheads of Ceratostigma Willmotianum and Hydrangea with extra adornment

Loreopetalum Firedance, fingers crossed for this one which has survived a thick coating of snow in it’s old position but will it be as protected in this one?
Time will tell

The frosty front garden just to make a change from all those close ups. A recent blog commented that we are neglectful of showing our front gardens so here is mine. Apart from a Laburnum, Ornamental Pear tree, Tamarisk and a couple of hydrangeas….and of course the frost …..mine looks like this all year round.

and last, but not least…..no photo blog of mine would be complete without a pic of my favourite Pennisetum Rubrum! I promise this will be the last one (well this year anyway) as they are now well and truly “brown bread” after such a good frosting!

Hi Lily, First I just wanted to say how lovely your photo's are! Your garden isn't that shabby either. Lol. I guess the frost (-2 here last night) has finally put paid to my summer bedding that was just hanging on by it's fingertips. I suppose I will have to take it all out now. :~((

Great shots Lily, nothing else to teach you is there? You are cooking with gas now. I would have loved to see footprints in the frost on the lawn though. :o)))))

So nice to see the flowers all dressed in frost a different view altogether.

Lovely photos Lily.....I love to see the frost on things. Makes everything look so pretty.

Thank you everybody for all your kind comments, after all the dreary weather it was great to have something pretty to take pics of.
I don't do much to the front garden Sandra, just trim the bushes once a year and weed the gravel, there's lots more of that not in this pic. Front garden is bigger than the back which is definitely a summer garden
Stay by that fire with Blodyn, Hywel, it's the best place!
Yes Ian I think your bedding will definitley need a helping hand in the direction of the compost heap now.
Thank you for that AA and Denise, I'll do that asap.
Strange how 4 miles can make such a difference isn't it Andrew, it seemed pretty general round here, not just a frost pocket in my garden.
Bob, you're just a big kid aren't you! By 'lawn' I guess you mean my moss area - if you tread on that you would leave 1" deep (at least) footprints! Still it looks good from a distance and doesn't need cutting often. :o))
There's still lots of undiscovered settings on the camera to get to grips with. I'm saving them for the photography course in January. Plenty more to learn yet!!

Lily - thanks for the lovely photos! Watch out for that Loropetalum, though - even here, mine was damaged by frost last winter - and that was AFTER I'd fleeced it!

2 Dec, 2009

I fleeced mine AND covered the roots with straw but still lost it last winter :-(

2 Dec, 2009

Lily, just had to say that the first few pics reminded me of some flowers that were on a friends wedding cake, they were dusted in sugar to give an "iced" effect - can't beat the real thing tho!

2 Dec, 2009

Well Spritz and Andrew , it survived the last 2 winters in the front garden in a corner between a thuggish conifer and Phormium. It survived snow and all sorts but it was rather deprived of water etc by its neighbours. As I could hardly see it either I dug it up and put it in a pot until the right spot materialised. The pot is temporarily sunk in the ground and I did intend to move it undercover for the winter.......oops.....have done so now, hope it's not too late!! I have sneaked one Pennisetum indoors though! :o))
Hi Busylizzy, yes that's just what they look like....just a shame the 'icing' was the death of them! Ah well, they were on borrowed time anyway.

Lovely pics Lily thank you for sharing them :~)))

Thank you for taking me on a chilly trip around your garden. When I left for work it was still dark and I had to remove frost from the car ! Wish I too could have lingered with my camera, but you captured it all for me ! Beautiful sights, fleeting, but you caught them just in time :)

Smashing photo`s Lily.......

2 Dec, 2009

Thanks Mobee, Wagger, Donnah and Sue, I'm glad you liked them but I can't claim much credit as the camera does it all!
Yes Bloomer, I've often got my slippers on out in the garden too. lol
Being able to do things like this is one of the few perks of getting to bus pass age Aster! Ice on windscreens just doesn't have the same charm does it? :o((

Doesn`t frost make things look all the more beautiful Lily? You have an excellent camera to get such clear shots. :o)

Really enjoyed your blog Lilly its great to be cheered up when the weather is cold and gloomy. It`s especially nice to see a whole or part garden for a change and that looks like a lovely statue you have in your front garden. Do you think we could see a pic of it with the planting round it come spring.

5 Dec, 2009

Lovely photos, Lily, only just seen this blog, beautiful. You must be an early riser - I'm not, most of the time, so I miss the frost, its gone by the time I get up if we have any, that is.

5 Dec, 2009

Thank you Sandra, Stroller and Bamboo. It all looked so pretty but of course it also meant the end of many things.
I like to get up around 7am but with hubby very recently retired I think that may slip........:o((( Frost I don't mind but snow....ugh!
Yes Stroller, I really like to see garden views too, 'The Lady' was rather chilly out there as she's a bit of a floozie and doesn't wear many clothes! LOL. I'll see what I can do about surrounding her with flowers in the spring but small things do struggle due to the many roots from all the shrubs and some trees (which are out of the shot) Maybe some pots?
