Corner pergola

Re my question on 30 August about what type of rose I could grow across the front of my house. I have since managed to get someone to build me a sturdy structure to allow a DA climbing rose Paul Noel to grow up it & across to cover front of my house. I have struggled to disguise that corner of my house and hope this structure will soften the hard lines. I must admit I have never really liked the style & look of my house and only agreed to buying it as the garden had so much potential! About time I hear you say as I had the wire climbing frame on my brickwork put in place 4 years ago! Just needs a lick of paint and I hope it will look lovely next summer!

Just added a picture of it painted and bejazzeled!!

Looks great, Amsterdam! A really solid structure too. I think it’ll lend very nicely to having a beautiful Rose clambering up and over to your house wall! Can’t wait to see it starting to grow once it’s planted. What colour are you painting your pergola? Will it be green like your fence?

Your house looks lovely, and you now have a good solid looking pergola which once it has been clothed with your rose will draw the eye to the corner, in gardening we all have a vision on doing things, and once achieved we then have to have the patience for it to be realised and i am sure it will look great, fashions come and go in gardening like everything and this year I have been using ronseal Tudor black for fence painting etc, it really is a fantastic backdrop for plants, especially a large potted bamboo, the darker background really shows plants off with good effect.

Kate- am hoping to paint it same colour as my bench.
Julien - I can imagine the black back drop offering an amazing contrast, also very bold!

Agree, the bench is a lovely colour. I would never have thought of using black Julien but now you mention it I guess it will look very effective too.

I agree its a very solid structure I like the green of the bench to match as well , I would plant a clematis with the rose to prolong the flowering season ...

It looks really good and I'm sure it will be nice to see your rose flowering on it next summer :)
