**PICTON NURSERIES** ASTERS GALORE!!

We last visited this nursery over 25 years ago with Kinver Horti group, when we lived in the Midlands, when we were shown around by the owner.
Being as we were in Malvern for the show, we were pleased to see Picton had an open day, so along with the rest of the family we made our way to Old Court Nurseries…
It was a beautiful day and the Asters looked amazing, quite breathtaking, the garden was much larger than we remembered, and contained many bamboo, grasses, and unusual trees and shrubs, and more improvements were in the pipeline…..sorry there are rather a lot of photographs….

We were all taken with the wicker figures….

This time the owners son was on hand to answer questions, who must be in his 70s, he was proud to tell us his family, the next generation will be taking on the nurseries, hope you enjoyed looking at these beautiful flowers, it was hard to do justice to so many magnificent blooms, and should you get the chance to visit next time you are in Malvern, please do you certainly will not be disappointed….

Our youngest grandson Edward who endured the visit very well, a promise to visit the park was the bribe, that kept him going!!

Wow! Colour therapy or what!? I can imagine what it feels like to be amongst all those beautiful flowers. Your grandson is gorgeous, and I love those wicker statues too! I love that photo of the winding pathway. Less colour, but more 'me'! :))

Wow from me too what a fantastic place, so much colour, I could kick myself now OH offered to take me to Malvern, we go most years for the Autumn show, but I didn't fancy the long drive this year so we went to Harrogate instead, next year I think it'll be a yes and this will be top of the list to visit :-), thanks for sharing really enjoyed your pictures :-)

Lovely asters and very colourful late in season. Mine have ceased to flower and now being cut down. They have planted themselves, but easy to clear if need be.Wish we could travel about and see such places, as we used to go here there and everywhere.

I've never quite taken to Asters but after seeing these beautiful photos showing what can be done in large blocks its definitely making me think again , I loved the Wicker figures they add an extra something to a garden and some excitement when you spot another one ....

Gone on my favourites to remind me of yet another lovely nursery to visit within striking distance. Great photos.

Stroller not too far for you I would imagine....
Amy I have always been a fan of daisies whatever size, shape or form, and this time of year they do add some colour to the borders..
Dorjac as you say easy to pull up if not wanted.....I know how you feel about the getting around, the older one gets the more difficult it becomes..
Simbad I can understand, it is a long way for you, rather nice to make a weekend of it, some wonderful hotels to stay at, good eating places, and lovely gift shops...
Thanks K Edward is the baby, his brother and sister are our eldest grandchildren being 23 and 26!!
Bloomer at least Asters come in all sizes, useful in a small garden, Edward being the youngest earns him a few privileges.....
Lindak pleased you enjoyed the blog, I have to admit we were both taken with the wickerwork......
Thank you all for your kind comments, it was an enjoyable morning, especially being with our family too....

Gone on my favourites too. I'm planning to revamp my front garden to put more asters in and make a really good show to end the season.

Stunning colour - it made me wonder what they did for colour the rest of the year.
I like Asters but they are not fans of my garden, they just look so rotten!
The wickerwork is just beautiful. All seem right at home where they've put them.
Thanks for sharing your day out.

I wondered what happens in summer too Scottish.
DD, Its a breathtaking display - what a good thing you noticed there was an open day! Do you know whether the wicker figures are made on the premises? there's definitely a talent at work there!

I love Michaelmas Daisies and the smell of Autumn.
Thank you for the lovely selection of photographs.

Lovely photos, DD! :-)) Like Diane, I, too, love Michaelmas Daisies! They remind me of when I was a small boy in London. We used to see them in gardens but often full of mildew! Nevertheless I always liked their colour at the back end of summer.

I would love to visit that Garden - I've already seen photos of it in various magazines - did you buy any plants to bring home, Angela? What a lovely blog - thank you for sharing it. I am adding it to favourites as well. :-D)

Barbara I did not buy any plants, have since ordered some online elsewhere,it takes me ages to pick out a good plant, and the family would have been driven mad, waiting for me to make a decision!
Balcony we both are passionate about daisies, and yet we only have one Aster! hopefully a few more by the end of the month...
Diane pleased you liked the blog....
Stera although they grow so many Asters, the garden is only open during their season, although, I believe all that could change with younger members taking on the nursery...
Lincs glad you enjoyed our visit, we were so lucky with the weather....
Hywel it was, thanks....
Scottish your welcome, there were coach parties arriving as we left.
Andrew I like the ones you have growing at the moment, hopefully we can get some started, you never know what will grow by the sea......

Wonderful place, any idea what the yellow daisy is on the photo just above gorgeous Edward.

Dawn - it looks like a helianthus of some sort

10 Oct, 2014

Thanks for sharing your visit,Dd. What a fab place. I'm sorry that I don't live anywhere near or I'd be there right away. You have to wait a long time for the Asters, but they last a nice long time, so are worth it in the end, aren't they.

11 Oct, 2014

Thanks Andrew, beautiful isnt it.

11 Oct, 2014

It does, but some of them run badly so check before getting one.

Feverfew pleased you enjoyed our visit as much as we did..
Sandra a stroke of luck we should be staying with our family at that particular time.
