Build a garden in two hours!

Tomorrow it’s Sparsholt college open day 18th May. I have voluntered to build a garden in two hours.

I have done this before at Bath & West show with a budget of £1000 to promote a local nursery, as well as doing it at the college with a budget of nothing.

We were allowed to rumage around the landscaping area where the guys and girls learn how to lay patios and build walls etc. Then to the hortic department to see which plants we can use. Usually the ones they are not selling, so they are not the best.

So tomorrow, I have had a look around and found some bricks, wood, gravel, 4 stone circles that would normally be used in a patio and a couple of bits of wood.

In the morning we will see what plants are available to us, then at 1pm we will have 2 hours to build a garden.
The idea is to give the passing public something to watch as we talk to them about the college and the sort of courses that are available and what we think about it all.

It’s a little bit of fun and the gardens are obviously not planted but, pots placed in position, any brick work is not going to be cemented. But hopefully it will give people an idea of what to do with a small space.

The plot size is roughly 4.5mtrs x 2.5mtrs and marked out by chunky sleepers.
Below is my sketch as how it should look.

Fingers crossed it will look nice and colourful with some nice plants by the time we have finished.

Pop along if you live close by…
Dan…

Good luck...it's a great idea! Particularly to show those who have never started from scratch with a garden that it really isn't that scary or complicated! not that I underestimate the skill involved in making a 2 hour garden!!!

Hi Dan, Good luck, wish I could come along but have a busy day ahead. I came to see you at Bath & West when you did that one. My nephew works at Sparsholt, so his family will be there.
