This is my one and only yellow climbing St. Thomas Rose bush. It blooms twice a season and is very fragrant. Unfortunately it has black spot and I believe some other kind of fungus. It has grown so long and langy I plan on cutting it back after blooming. Any suggestions on how to prune? Can I cut it way back and start again?

Before cutting it back you should talk to someone at a local garden center and have them suggest a spray that will take care of the fungus and black spot. You might also want to give it some epsom salts, 1 tsbs. to the gallon of water. a good drink of about two gallons will do it wonders. You have a nice looking bush there with loads of flowers.

Some type of fungus spray will help, Regina. I use one with Sulfur in it. It seems to work very well. Spray and then keep spraying for the rest of the growing season about every 7 to 10 days. Make sure you spray both leaf surfaces and the canes.
Clean up all the fallen leaves from around the base of the plant and then put down a thick layer of some clean mulch such as straw, pine needles, bark, etc. This will help stop the soil splashing up onto the plant when watering or during the rain. Pick off any obviously affected leaves and keep the ground around the plant free of any fallen leaves.
Prune out any damaged or dead canes. I wouldn't prune it right back until the fall unless it becomes completely defoliated.
Make sure you give it a good feed and use the epsom salts as Mike suggests and make sure you are giving it plenty of water. The water and food will strengthen the plant and make it more resistant to disease.
