Fuchsia 'Hawkshead'

Fuchsia 'Hawkshead' (Fuchsia magellanica (Hardy fuchsia))

This fuchsia was in a pot wirh annuals for the summer. I planted it in the border when I re-did the pot for the winter, and it has thrived there. I shall leave it outside as it is a hardy plant.

It can grow very tall. Mine in the other garden got to about 6 ft. I had to keep cuttung it back all the time. I haven't got it here because it gets too big for this garden. It will look great in your's spritzhenry.

It would be lovely if it does, Hywel! Six feet? - wonderful!

What a lovely fuschia Spitz. I wish I could leave the fushia in the ground like that. They have to come inside here.

Most do, Gilli, but there are a few that can stay out, though the top growth may die back, and new shoots appear in the spring. I have 'Mrs Popple' which is very reliable like that. 'Hawkshead' should be the same, I hope!

BTW, 'Mrs Popple' is still in full bloom! Tossing about in the wind, but OK.

I've got most of mine still outside, except the one's in my hanging basket, that i've fetched undercover. In fact most of them still have flowers on them.

I bought one Hawkshead this spring but after someone said it grew to 4ft in height I took it out of the hanging basket where I'd put it & put it into a much bigger pot. Unfortunately it hasn't grown at all. :-( It hasn't died either so perhaps next year it will grow up & I'll get some flowers.
