In Feb. 2006 when there were at least 42 Purple Finches here every day at the feeders, this male crashed the window. Whenever I hear a crash I run to hold the bird in warmth and safety until they recover their sences. This guy was almost ready to take off.

Bless you Di!... I had a flicker fly into the patio doors..thump..be broke his neck poor thing...he was such a gorgeous specimen.. have you tried putting a hawk silhouette near the top of the window? I was always amazed at the vitality of the young birds...Jacky was a little furnace...those little feathers are wonderful insulators! The birds weigh next to nothing and still their life force is so strong.

Can't recall seeing one of these before, super pic and thank you for sharing. Sadly, I can recall that when we had a conservatory built it took quite a few sad deaths before the local bird life remembered where it was!

Purple Finch not on the RSPB UK index, I have never seen on either. These little moments are to treasure for ever.

Yes, I do treasure the moment every time I get a chance to hold one of our little featherd friends but it happens way to often and doesn't always have a nice outcome. The thing that gets me is how tiny some of them really are ! Like a Chickadee, Goldfinch and Hummingbird. Very tiny.

Wow, that's cool..!..Not that they nearly knock theirselves out...lol, but that you get to hold them for a little while.
