hello my name is leigh bye the way if you feal better about calling me bye my name.im an artist and avid gardener, sculpter, potter and artist.the word nosey comes from my entering an art competition and watching all the snobs obviously looking at the signiture first before caring about the art.the potter is because i do pottery and i think its got a rememberel catchy ring about it.i am coverd and i mean coverd in tattoos with a few piercings.its only ink and i concider myself not to be to bad an old boy.anyway it saves me talking to the shallow narrow minded people i dont want to talk to anyway lol.i am guessing that a blog is a story about yourself.the thing that made me decide to definatly sign a lot of my work nosey was the snobbery of people.i enterd a compertition after doing some evening classes of a husky and a couple of other pictures.i havent had any formal traing bye the way and most of the entrance had if you know what i mean.there was about 600 pictures and 200 artists.they had a preview with all the entrance and a few big nobs if ya like.i had a shave put on some tidy jeans and a t-shirt ,made an effort.when i went most people looked at me like i was something they ate yesterday and didnt like.one woman asked me “have you got anything in the competition” in a disbelieving fashion.i retorted yes love i got the korean boy,the husky and a pencil drawing of a dog.i turned round and she had left while i was looking the other way.people never fail to blow me away.im not rude,i hold doors open, infact a firm believer in being friendly if i can.anyway to cut an already long story shorter lol there was a public vote over 2 weeks of voting and a vote bye professional artists to.in the mean time i bumped into the guilhall in thetfords administrater just before the public vote was counted.he said i shouldnt be telling you this but your husky is definatly going to win bye over a 100 votes.knowing this and how id bean treated before . the day of the prize giving instead of making an effort(im one of lifes scruffs im afraid) i didnt shave and wore just shorts and a vest top as it was a hot sunny evening so why not lol.again and even worse because i was as scruffy as i could be this time they looked at me like scum .i went to the back of the room and wated.the spokesman said third place bla bla claps and cheers followed.second place bla bla ,same again.then first place leigh shelton.with that ive walked to the front very brash but respectfull saying quite loud excuse me EXCUSE ME .you should of sean there faces.what was maybe even more rediculous was after they realised tattood people can actualy draw like that you couldnt keep them away from me.mad hay.it was a very proud moment beating all the good artists within a 14 mile radious of thetford.why couldnt the people talk to me in the first place.its a funny old world.arnt humans the strangest creatures of them all lol

Leigh, I admire your beautiful artwork. It is absolutely wonderful...I also love the way your garden is shaping up to reflect your own personality and sense of self. You see, that is what makes you who you are. All those other (snobs) have no sense of self except as it is defined by the acceptable behaviors of society (and we all know that that definition is as shallow as it gets) Continue to be yourself and create that which fulfills your inner self. You are like a butterfly that has broken out of the cacoon which society tries to encase everyone in....spread your wings....be yourself....

Awww, Leigh, you don't look so bad. You look like quite a nice fella. So what if you have tatoos and piercings. So do my kids. Anyone who holds doors open for people and has general courtesy is a rare find these days.
Don't worry about the snobs in the world. Its them that are losing out on so many wonderful experiences in life. People like that must have very "young souls" and haven't yet learned to look beyond what they see with their eyes.
Your artwork is wonderful. And I love the pic of the 3 dogs on the couch. Sooo cute.

Hi Leigh, Thanks very much for all your advice on my recent question, i like the more Acers idea - i have a bit of a fetish for them anyway lol. i really enjoyed reeding your blog, it just goes to show that you should never judge a book by its cover, and congratulations on winning first prize, and looking at your photos i can well see why, they are BRILLIANT! i think you will find that everyone on here is very friendly, we all have a bit of a laugh and help each other out with advice, and it is really good to be able to have a nose at what others are doing in the garden, i am sure you will fit in just fine. not too many snobs about, well none that i know of anyway lol.

Many congrats Leigh,
Talent shows itself with or without formal or even informal training. I cannot draw but I find other ways to express that need and I hope have an appreciation of what's good. I have been looking at your art as you have posted it over the last few months and I really like it, it's good and just that little bit different. Very nice.
My father was an artist, but did not pursue it as a career (he was a chemical engineer) and he always felt a bit envious of anyone who could.
As for the funny looks etc. well, they can only understand what they know, and they just don't know you! I'm sure if they did they would like you. Some are just too narrow minded, isn't it interesting that so many of us say our kids or grandkids are just like you. You are ahead of your time!!
Oh yeah, my son gets the strange looks when we are out, mostly from older women... he has a gorgeous head of long thick, curly hair. They are jealous! : )

Good for you Leigh !
I understand you because I come from a very snobbish familly - well my mother's side anyway. They're unbelievable. Used to look down their noses at us because of where we lived etc. And especially me because i wore jeans and woudn't wear a tie, and because I liked being in the garden. lol I don't have much to do with them now.
I like drawing and pottery too and I think yours are great.
Congratulations on winning !

Something that I heard in a tv interview has stayed with me through the years - A blind man was asked about his 'disability' and he said that he thought of it more as a gift, as it gave him the ability to know people from how they acted & spoke rather than forming preconcieved notions that the rest of us do, therefore he was never limited in his human experiences by appearances, race, etc.
A wise man...

People shouldn,t be judged on their outsides, but what they are on they are on their insides,if that makes any sense.
I am in my late sixties and even though my outsde shows my age.inside I am still a hippy chick from the sixties.

Hey Leigh congrats - I loved the drawing of the husky and the little boy, you're very talented! Your tattoos do look a little scary (especially the skull on the back of your head! That must have hurt!) but you have a very kind face and people shouldn't judge others by how they look anyway...have you ever seen Miami Ink or LA Ink? they're reality shows on cable about tattoo shops and the people who come get tattoos...don't know if they show them in the UK though.
