Weeding's Profile
About me
We have a fair few weeds out there, but lots of plants I like too. I'm over 40 and under 43, a family-oriented person, and I also am lucky to have good gardening neighbours. We have one cat, who enjoys slaughtering wildlife on a regular basis.
Want to grow more veg in the future (preparing for food crisis) now that we've worked out which ones aren't too complicated. Broad beans were good last year...
I've not got the hang of roses, but probably I don't give them enough attention - I'm hoping it'll be like baking bread, ie I'll manage it eventually.
Can't be doing with houseplants, they usually die of neglect. Nor any plant outdoors that's too finnicky.
Our garden gets used a lot by children aged 3-14, so it's no showgarden, but I once volunteered to open it for the local gardening club, so I must be mad. Sort of on a campaign though to encourage others like me with more "ordinary" gardens, or less time for them, not to be shy!
First gardening duty ever: deadheading pansies for my Mum.
Favourite plants-of-the-moment: all the veg in our new raised bed (2009), the peony & the pear tree, even though Reg Moule says it has rust spots. Oh, and the apple trees which we inherited.
I like a garden to have a proper washing line aswell.
Fave gardeners: Alys Whatsername & Monty Don.
Least faves: Alan Titchmarsh & Peter Seabrook (argh)
Weeds currently roaming through our garden include: dandelions, creeping buttercup, bindweed, ground elder,
some relation of rosebay willowherb, a little shiny chap whose name I don't know, geum rivale, nettles, dock, hairy bittercress... One day I'll do a photoguide of them all, as I could have done with one myself when starting gardening.
