Quest for the Unklnown Plant .

I can remember you asking about a plant when you first came on here and think i remember Andrew telling you, but the plant is lovely dont know which i like best pink or white. Enjoyed reading your blog and looking at this lovely flower.

Annella It's very easy to grow. Last year I had 2 bug clumps. I divided them up and sent them to lots on this site. I kept a bit for myself too lol

The root you sent me is in a big pot, Hywel, but still covered with snow. I do hope it is OK as it is such a beautiful plant.

Great blog Hywel, I do like a story with a happy ending. However, one question remains for me - I wouldn't say this is a commonly seen plant, so........I wonder where your Dad got it from ? :-0

How lovely Hywel, and what gorgeous plants they are too unusual in fact. Parents always do that deny and make you think your dreaming lol, my mum use to do it to me. I think its because they can't truely remember but don't want to admit their memory has faded , so they make you think you were seeing things, lol. Glad you have found the plant and worth it too.

That was a lovely story Hywel. I can almost feel the excitement you felt when it was identified for you. Is it Japanese? It sounds like it. I love airy plants like that, which allow a view right through them. Does it stand up to winds?

Sixpence it happens to us all as we get older (forgetting things)

Mad I'm not sure where it originates from. It would be interesting to find out. It stands up quite well to the wind. I didn't have to tie it up last year at all.

Sixpence I don't think my dad was interested enough in the garden to even know it was there lol. But he did have a way of making me doubt myself. In the end I used to tell him to be quiet ( or words to that effect. lol )

Muddywalters. I don't think my dad got the plant from anywhere. I think it was there when he bought the house like all the other things he killed off.

Lol Hywel well when you start to doubt yourself you know then its not you but them as a profesional once told me.

I got wise to it in the end but by then self-doubt had become a bad habit. I still do it lol.

Mad - I think they come from eastern North America. There is one called sanguisorba canadensis which is a bit of a clue

Yes Hywel I bought my seed from Thompson and Morgan three years ago, when I opened them there were two packets in the envelope so sent other packet to a friend, remember they germinated and I potted them up they grew a bit then seemed to die off thought I'd lost them but saved the pots, the next year they sprouted again, planted them out, and this year they flowered for the first time, love them they remind me of furry caterpillars :-)

I'm glad you didn't throw them away. You would have lost them. The white ones are much smaller than the pink ones.

Its truly a beauty Hywel, so well worth the wait. The pink one is gorgeous.........

Patience paid off in the end Hywel, I can understand you wanting to find these plants, because they are delightful, will try and find a space for the pink....and of course the white in our garden, they remind me of foxtail lilies. Thanks for telling us your story.

reminds me of my dad when he would try to interest me in gardening.
he would show me how to dig in lupuns for conditioning the soil.
he had a whole 1000 sq meters for the garden so we never had to buy much in the way of vegies.
however my interests were in engineering then not gardens but the litle education he gave me stuck.

A heartwarming blog and with such a happy ending, especially as you have shared them with others and spread the joy of them.
