01/03/2012 My first sighting of a Blackcap in my own garden since I moved in over 36 years ago.

I had an idea of it’s name but I double checked the RSPCB website.
http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/name/b/blackcap/index.aspx

I do like the aka name ‘Northern Nightingale’

Another shot from the front

_04/03/ 2012, SNOW! not again._

The woods outside the back do not look very inviting.

This was the rainbow from the day before so perhaps a belated pot of gold.

Slowly the weather improved and when I took a look out side I noticed a bird on one of the feeders. It was the return of the Blackcap.

I removed some of the side twigs for better pictures.

Blue tit on the feed too

Male Chaffinch looking happy on the grass

This Blue tit must be watching the antics of the Blackbird below.

Ouch! my nose

C’mon! arms up.

Flat Bellies

Left arm up.

Shower time

Still having fun time

What’s with the eye contact

Give us a peck.

Five covers for tea.

A fellow member suggested I might try pebbles in the water dish so as to help the smaller birds have a drink

What’s the saying? ‘Water off a Ducks’s back.’ Perhaps this blackbird heard too.

Blackbird searching for food

A photo that I have already published. Will be happy when all of the Spring flowers are poking through and warm enough to stay in the garden for a while.

Your blackcap pics are great, Tom. And that blackbird is having a great time!
My birdbath was frozen over this morning. Hope this cold snap doesn't last too long with all the spring flowers already up.

Thank you all for your lovely comments. No ice on the birds water but lots of frost on the car windscreens . Hopefully the Camellia's bloom will survive.
I too saw the news of the heavy snow in France. Lets hope the weather soon makes an improvement.

Great blog Tommy, love the captions as well as the pics. The blackbird was having a lovely time in the bath! We've had a Blackcap grace our garden with his presence for the past 3 winters but he never brings his wife! LOL He's very bossy and thinks the feeders are his own, only the robin stands up to him.

Thank you all for your nice comments. At the moment the Blackcap that visited my garden not the same as Lily2. Even the Bluetits ganged up and chased him off the feeders. The Robin sees the Bluetits and Chaffinch away and the male Blackbird has taken a dislike to the Robin and sees him off. The Blue tits are now trying to feed throughout the daylight hours and seen them popping into the nesting box.
