The MacSCARECROW Clan ... on the run !

Last weekend I bought some raffle tickets in aid of the children’s wards at the hospital.

I was lucky enough to win two prizes …

This super stainless steel set of garden trowel and fork …

……………………………………………………………………..

… and the MacScarecrow Clan …

… a wonderful prize …

… someone must have spent many hours, hand-knitting these characters so expertly and carefully …

……………………………………………………………………..

… but it was a mistake to let Truffle look after the Clan …

The MacScarecrows were on the move !

… Truffle … open your eyes !

… but Truffle looked right instead of left …

……………………………………………………………………..

The Great Escape of the MacScarecrows !

They were spreading out in all directions …

Team Terra had to hunt down Great Uncle Angus, Morag, Scotty, Baby Bonnie, Wee Sproot and Scamp the dog …

…………………………………………………………………….

Wee Sproot had climbed into the front garden hydrangea …

……………………………………………………………………..

… and Scotty took his haggis to the heather tub …

……………………………………………………………………..

Great Uncle Angus was found playing his bagpipes for Brunnera Jack Frost …

……………………………………………………………………..

Morag carried her bag of knitting via the Gravel Garden …

… to the Heuchera Plum Royale on the raised bed …

……………………………………………………………………..

Baby Bonnie was very elusive …

… first on the pink Hydrangea …

… and then way up high in the red roses …

thankfully, Conker was there to rescue Baby Bonnie …

…………………………………………………………………….

… and finally, Scamp the dog was discovered …

… balancing on the Sempervivums …

…………………………………………………………………….

Everyone was safe and happy … back together again

……………………………………………………………………..

Sorry, I can’t be on GoY very much at the moment…

… some worries elsewhere …
… but I hope to be back soon …

I’ve just realised it’s almost 5 years since I joined GoY …

… 14th Aug. 2008 .. where does the time go ? …

Hello Terra, it's lovely to see you. What amazingly appropriate prizes you won! They are by far the sweetest knitted characters I've ever seen......and the dog is just like Molly...in fact, I think they are the MacFraser scarecrow clan....there's me with the knitting bag! Lol! Great blog!

5 Aug, 2013

That was fun TT- nice to see you. Someone certainly is talented to have knitted that lovely family. The little dog has to be my favourite too, tho' not quite as cute as Conker and Truffle.

5 Aug, 2013

Thanks everyone for your lovely comments. :o)

The knitted MacScarecrow Clan characters are extremely well-made ...
... must have taken many hours of careful knitting !

6 Aug, 2013

Great prizes Terra, someone must have spent ages knitting all those colourful characters and Conker and Truffle will be so busy keeping a check on them to protect all your plants, so good with their handling of the little Macscarecrows and their furry friend.
Lovely blog and photo's, I love their names, made me smile as they seem so right, lol, keep your spirits up Terra and hoping to see you soon.....

Hi Sue ...

thank you ... we had fun !

After I won the MacScarecrow Clan,
I found their knitting patterns on the internet ..
www.jeangreenhowe.com/macscarecrow.html

The names of all the characters are there ...
... interesting website to browse :o)

6 Aug, 2013

I knitted a lot of Jean Greenhowe's characters years ago, TT, for my grandchildren and then for various charity events. They are easy to follow patterns but very time consuming. Well worth the effort though :)

6 Aug, 2013

Hi Gee .. I can imagine the hours of work !

Can you see how well your Jack Frost is doing, next to Great Uncle Angus .. ?
.. thanks so much. :o) x

6 Aug, 2013

Absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing
your new family with us all.

6 Aug, 2013

Well done on your prizes Terra ... they couldn't have been more suitable for you! Conker and Truffle look wonderful too ... :o)

6 Aug, 2013

Lovely prizes Terra, well done on winning them, take care :-)

6 Aug, 2013

Jack Frost has done well, TT. Mine was attacked by slugs so badly that I potted it and now it looks much better :)

6 Aug, 2013

TT - that wis guid!!
The MacScarecrows look richt at hame in yir gairdin!

6 Aug, 2013

Missed you, TT, and fingers crossed that all wrinkles will be ironed out very soon.

Lovely blog! are the Clan weatherproof, or do they only come out when it's dry? I hate knitting, was forced to do it as a kid, and kept stretching it to make it grow longer! Prefer crochet, it graws faster, being mostly holes. I can't imagine how much time, care and effort went into making the Clan.

thought: could you give the link to this blog to the hospital, and ask them to pass it on to the person who made and donated the Clan? I'm sure they'd be delighted to see how they're getting on!

7 Aug, 2013

Thanks everyone for your very kind words ...
The MacScarecrows have settled in well ...
they all have strong Scottish accents ;o)

Fran...
I can imagine you stretching your knitting Lol.

Good idea about the Clan ... I emailed the final photo of 'everyone safe' to one of the organisers of
the raffle. I hope the person who did such lovely knitting knows how much it is appreciated.

7 Aug, 2013

I love it! Very entertaining and loads of fun.

7 Aug, 2013

Sorry to be late for the party........but I'm here now!

Its my very favorit blog

\0/ \0/ \0/. three cheers fot Team Terra xxx

7 Aug, 2013

Fran, have a look at Deramores.....its an online knitting supplier that I find good. They have free patterns to download for crochet as well as knitting, and good offers on yarn too

7 Aug, 2013

thanks Pam, I'll look them up right away

8 Aug, 2013

Fran .. I forgot to answer one of your questions ..
Clan not weatherproof ... they live indoors ... :o)

8 Aug, 2013

lol TT, I didn't think they would be - of course, they could be dipped in something but that'd probably ruin them.

:) can imagine them on the windowsill, wistfully looking out and wondering when they'll be allowed out to play ...

9 Aug, 2013

The clan couldn't have gone to a better home, and the rest of the prize was great too - very desirable and so well deserved. Sorry to hear you have problems just now - hoe they will soon be sorted.

10 Aug, 2013

your so clever you will soon solve it

12 Aug, 2013

lol TT, if wishes were horses, you'd have a whole herd heading your way!

13 Aug, 2013

Late on the scene as usual and very pleased to see you back with such a clever entertaining blog TT. Conker and Truffle are very refined dogs not to harm the lovely knitted scarecrow family. Hope your affairs are soon resolved.

2 Sep, 2013

I'm even later! Why am I not notified by GoY when any of my faves puts on a blog or pic. How can I hope to keep up!
Anyway, gt blog & yes beautiful knitting( deserves to be kept away from the "boys" I think. I have been wondering what you have all been up to this lovely summer, dog shows etc.Hope your probs are resolved soon.

3 Sep, 2013

Thanks Dorjac and Feverfew ..
I hope to be able to spend more time on GoY soon.

4 Sep, 2013

Hi Homebird ..
thanks for visiting the MacScarecrows xxx

9 Sep, 2013

I still can't get over the intricateness (is that a word?) of the design, nor how well the creator made them, As someone whose "fine stitching" is someone else's tacking, I stand awed and envious!

9 Sep, 2013

I agree, Fran ..
currently I have the clan perched on my stairs landing, and every time I walk by, the neatness of the stitches looks remarkable !

9 Sep, 2013

lol if you can, and if they agree, can we have more pics of the family?

9 Sep, 2013

I'll make a blog over the winter featuring the MacScarecrows... and maybe I'll include the new fluffy toy dog from my latest blog too ... Lol.

9 Sep, 2013

oh, please!!!!!!! *s*
