Heuchera ‘Gypsy Dancer’ …
The cute Campanula was kindly sent by Spritzhenry

……………………………………………………..

A few weeks ago I had no choice but to give this huge hebe shrub a severe pruning.

It had become alarmingly overgrown.

I’m relieved to see lots of new shoots and flowers.

Thankfully I didn’t kill it off ;o)

……………………………………………………..

Another hebe … pretty purple leaves …

… sorry … I don’t know the varieties of either hebe …

………………………………………………………

Conker helps by collecting fallen honeysuckle leaves

Well done … the lawns look much tidier now :o)

………………………………………………………

Pink roses … happy, high above the dog run

Climbing Rose ‘High Hopes’

Tiny white petals, now frosted …

… but this little plant has been a delight to see outside my front door …

Gypsophila ‘White Angel’

………………………………………………………

Roses inherited from my mother .. still loads of buds !

………………………………………………………

Back in the summer I tried a planting experiment.

I bought two identical Heucheras …

This one I put in a shady area of my raised bed.

Has stayed healthy, pretty foliage, but hasn’t flowered …

Heuchera ‘Plum Royale’ … in the shade

……………………………………………………..

Second plant, in my sunny front garden.

… still flowering well …

Heuchera ‘Plum Royale’ … in full sunshine

………………………………………………………

Juicy Honeysuckle berries …

When winter arrives, these tempt the Collared Doves.

At the edge of my front garden … oranges and lemons …

This autumn, JR has lots of tassels …

Thanks Sue .. Conker and Truffle send hugs :o) x

19 Nov, 2012

Lovely blog TT. It's nice to see your colourful autumn garden.
Is that the result you expected from your experiment ?
Lucky you having two enthusiastic helpers ;o)

19 Nov, 2012

Thank you, Hywel.
Yes, I had rather expected the heuchera in the shady raised bed to be without blooms, but usefully decorative, with its leaf shape and colour ...

...and the other one in the sun to be more for the bright flowers, seen from my front door.

But Truffle has other ideas ... to re-plant both heucheras into his newly-designed flower bed ;o) Lol.

19 Nov, 2012

Heucheras always look nice with or without flowers :o)
Truffle might rearrange your whole garden if you're not careful lol :o)

19 Nov, 2012

Lol. Hywel ...
Truffle has been studying GoYpedia ...
... "Design Ideas" ...
... worrying, isn't it .. ;o)

19 Nov, 2012

Very ! ;o)

lovely pics as always Terra - nice to escape the horrible winter - very nice colouring and your dogs are as cute as ever :))

19 Nov, 2012

Lovely Autumn colours and lots of flowers still to enjoy. A bonus of your wonderfully kept doggies. Such good gardeners too TT.

19 Nov, 2012

Your garden is full of colour and the roses are amazing. Obviously, it did not matter too much where you planted your accommodating heuchera.

19 Nov, 2012

Agree with mother dearest Terra - I love your blogs - always a big sense of joy to them :)))

19 Nov, 2012

What a great blog Terra....Your garden still has so much colourful plants....Conker & Truffle looking gorgeous as always...:>)

19 Nov, 2012

I love your bright pictures, do you have extra sunlight or a special camera, wonderful colours, your assistants have been working well.

19 Nov, 2012

You do have lots to enjoy Terra, my poor roses have suffered badly this year, I get the odd flower now and again but mostly they are spoilt before opening.
Good to see the gardeners are keeping on top of things, very industrious, lol, can I borrow them for leaf duty please...Lots of berries as well, they say thats a sign of a harsh winter I believe so your garden will be popular with the birds.....

19 Nov, 2012

Lovely, I particularly liked your roses :o)

19 Nov, 2012

Super blog TT so much still doing well in your lovely garden, Conker and Truffle busy as ever keeping things tickety boo, hugs to them :o)

19 Nov, 2012

Firstly ....Truffle & Conker are both very nice attractions to your garden .....& obviously great little helpers as well (my puppy Loki has obviously been in secret contact with your two & although he is not old enough to read yet, has clearly been looking at the photos in Design Ideas, no doubt encouraged by Truffle, as digging has become his passion).
Secondly ..... That Plum Royale is a real beauty, with or without flowers. I really need to find one. Your garden is still looking great TT.

20 Nov, 2012

A lovely lot of colour there Terra and Conker and Truffle are looking very fine too ....

20 Nov, 2012

Hee, hee! Wish I could train my cat to help with the yard, but all he wants to do is roll in the dust! Nice blog, TT! : )

20 Nov, 2012

Lovely Autumn colour - particularly the rose inherited from your mother. Lovely!

20 Nov, 2012

Thanks Bren, Dorjac, Heather, Paul, Moti, Lizzie ...

We were lucky to have sunny weather when I took most of these photos. We've been fortunate to enjoy some very bright days. :o)

Hi Sue, Gem and Neena ...

My roses had a very good year .. I think they benefited from the frequent rains keeping the soil damper.
I'm sending Conker up to Lincs. for leaf duty ;o)

Hello Dwyllis ...

May I advise STRONGLY .. that you don't let lovely Loki look at GoYpedia MAKEOVER Ideas ... otherwise you might not recognise your garden at all ;o)

Good luck with finding Plum Royale ...

Thank you, Richard, Tug and Nariz ...

The rose was a tiny little shrub when I inherited it from my mother ... back then, I had no idea it would become so tall and beautiful ... and that it would flower for months on end ! :o)

.. and I'm willing to train Arizona pussycats in the finer arts of tidying the yard ... and other feline horticultural projects ;o)

20 Nov, 2012

Gosh Terra such colour still, on this windy hill the majority of the golden leaves have gone leaving a very wintry outlook

The boys look so happy to be helping xxx

20 Nov, 2012

Good morning Pam ...
Thank you ...
The autumn leaves are now falling every minute ...

20 Nov, 2012

Hi Sandra ...
... thank you ...
Yes, so much colour at this time of year.
Conker and Truffle have been a great help with the gardening ;o) x

20 Nov, 2012

Gorgeous photos TT, but especially of Conker and Truffle, they always make me smile when I see them, you have two beautiful dogs!!

20 Nov, 2012

I'm quite jealous of your Garrya Elliptica "James Roof". I had to buy 7 before I found somwhere it would live in our garden. My OH saw one many years ago and suggested we buy one. I dk why the first six died but no. 7 is in the daftest place to plant a shrub but it is surviving. Are the leaves on your Heuchera 'Plum Royal' bigger in the shade? Both plants look very healthy. Pat on the back for your gardeners. They do a great job.

20 Nov, 2012

Hi Jennyh ...
Thanks for your kind comments ...
... my dogs send hugs to you :o)

Hello Scotsgran ...
Great news that you now have a JR surviving. Where is it growing ? Sun or shade ? Dry or damp ?
I'll check out the Plum Royale leaves for you when the rain stops. "compare the plums.com." Lol..

You still have plenty of colour in your garden TT It was interesting to see the results of your experiment with the Heucheras they obviously like the sunny area best :o))

20 Nov, 2012

Lovely pictures Terra and so nice to see your Boys are still helping outin the garden;0)

20 Nov, 2012

Hi Amy..
Thank you .... Yes the heuchera in the shade didn't flower at all. Sunny one is still flowering away !

Thanks Carole.
I missed you while you were away. I'm pleased you enjoyed the holiday, but nice to see you back on GoY :o)

20 Nov, 2012

What a colourful blog - I especially like the Winter Jasmine - one of my favourites - Conker and Truffle I am sure are great little helpers !! Thanks for sharing your taste of Autumn

20 Nov, 2012

Hello! Conker and Truffle!! Again both are superstar in this beautiful blog , It really shows that Terra was a good mentor, and what a lovely flowers :-)))

20 Nov, 2012

Love the White Angel and cute campanula!

20 Nov, 2012

That's interesting about the heuch. terra. I'm surprised there isn't more difference in the foliage colour. They look to be about the same. Very lovely blog as usual. Truffle always looks like he has 'screw in legs' at the front! :)) Oh, btw, since you mentioned the collared doves...you reminded me. Remember the sparrow hawk took one of my pair, and it was so sad, the other one kept returning alone and just looked so sad and sorry for itself. But, today...hurray, TWO collared doves again! :) Didn't take him/her long eh? I guess no bereavement counselling was required! ;)

20 Nov, 2012

Another lovely blog again , Terra. You still have plenty of colour in your garden.

20 Nov, 2012

Interesting to read the comments.

Thanks, Rose.
This autumn seems to be the most colourful for many years :o)

20 Nov, 2012

20 Nov, 2012

Hi Sheilar ..
Thanks. Canine helpers have been useful with the leaf collection .. Truffle has eaten a few ;o)

20 Nov, 2012

You should really train him to 'leaf them alone' - sorry, that was terrible!! lol

20 Nov, 2012

Lol :o)

20 Nov, 2012

Such beauty everywhere.

My favourite picture is of the pyracantha and the winter jasmine together.

20 Nov, 2012

Yes.. Mother Nature knows how to do it best :o)))

20 Nov, 2012

Happy days indeed TT, lovely photos of your very pretty garden and your very handsome doggies....

20 Nov, 2012

Fantastic pics Terra, your garden must have its own micro climate, everything still looking so lovely (including the boys) mine looks horrible. Is plum Royale supposed to prefer sun or shade? it's a fabulous colour:-)

20 Nov, 2012

Wonderful photos Conker and Truffles looks so proud, love your mothers roses gorgeous and lovely colours of the Heuchera s
Here s for Conker and Truffles hehe

Thanks Dotty, Ba and Sixpence ...

Heuchera Plum Royale prefers morning sun, but can tolerate full sun in reasonably cool regions ...
Very adaptable it seems !

21 Nov, 2012

:o)) Your welcome Terratoonie.

22 Nov, 2012

Our JR is planted in a planting hole which was provided to grow something against the wall on the east side of the path leading to the patio in the front garden. It is shaded by the five foot high wall to the east, by the bulk of the house on the south and by a large and very old yew to the west. I have cut the foliage on the yew to make a green barrel trunk then allowed the branches to grow out at the top so it provides a windbreak too. The JR is very happy there but the wind from the south west means it does not want to grow naturally towards the south, the wind pushing it to grow north. I'll put a photo on if I can find one. I hope you are having better weather today. We had a lovely day yesterday, perfect for working in the garden but its back to normal ??? today, tipping down here. Just found a pic. taken in 2008 so it has grown a bit since then. its amazing that it chooses to survive there when it refused to grow in what I would have thought were more suitable locations.

22 Nov, 2012

Hi Scotsgran ...
Interesting where your JR has decided it likes to grow ...

I'll keep a look out for your photo.
Weather is brightening here after lots of rain.

22 Nov, 2012

Thanks, Terratoonie. it's always inspiring to read your blogs and view your photos. You and many GOYs have inspired me to get a move on with my garden.

Thanks again.

26 Nov, 2012

Thanks Jent
Yes, the honeysuckle berries are fascinating.

Thank you, Sixpence 48 ...
Good luck with your gardening in Treasure Beach :o)

26 Nov, 2012

Forecast a 4 degree frost for this morn. Shifted the still flowering fuchsias under the canopy. Still can't bring myself to cut them down and fleece them up, as they still look so pretty and colourful. Didn't see any frost when I got up....... but it wasn't early.

29 Nov, 2012

Hi Dorjac ...
We had a sprinkling of snow, but not too much.
I hope your fuchsias survive the winter.

10 Dec, 2012

I missed this , Terra .
Superb as usual .

10 Dec, 2012

At long last yesterday, Monday, TT I clipped back and fleeced up some of my fuchsias that I normally keep alongside the path. Tucked them near the kitchen wall between the wheely bin and a garden seat. Big fleece jacket over a group of 4 and then a green plastic over all of them, pegged down with clothes pegs. Fingers crossed. 2 hessian bags of leaves to protect the pots too.

11 Dec, 2012

Very interesting about the Heuchera ‘Plum Royale’ … in the shade and the other in full sun experiment.

My late dog used to love eating the berries off my Pyracantha plant (naughty dog:)

14 Oct, 2013

Hi GMrainbow ..
Thanks for visiting :o)
It isn't easy to stop dogs eating things in the garden .. Occasionally Truffle the Terrier eats fallen leaves ...

I still have both of the Heucheras, and, after the dry summer months, the Plum Royale in the shade is the most full of foliage.

14 Oct, 2013

Your garden is looking so good Terra..just noticed that it was November last year. I am sure that your garden is looking good now though too. Mine looks a bit of a mess at the moment (blush)...must get out there and tackle the weeding !

14 Oct, 2013

The garden is still looking rather colourful, as it has been quite mild and wet TT. Two roses red and pink in nearly full bloom and those lovely golden Sylvia Dahlias making a wonderful show too. It will be so sad to see them wilt at the first nasty frost. At least they light up the duller autumn days for now. It is the lot of gardeners, wishing the winter gone before it has even arrived! Truffle is only helping to clear up TT. It tastes nice too, for him a tasty snack.

16 Oct, 2013

Thank you Richard and Dorjac ..
This time of year a lot of plants are still flowering ...
... but leaves starting to fall ..
