I dislike heather that has been spray-painted garish colours! Why can't they leave it alone?
AND those horrible dyed flowers you see sometimes in florists'....why? I would never buy a bright blue carnation!
I am not keen on your 'rude' plant, (sorry, Angie), nor on that 'Bird of Paradise' flower, either. I know some people love them!
Trying to think if there are any garden plants I don't like - hmmm...oh yes! Scarlet bedding Salvias! French marigolds, too, as I can't bear the smell - I just have a few in the greenhouse to deter whitefly.
I'm sure I'll think of a few more....

Ha! I shall go and take a look.....I only have two hardy Chrysanths, this one and a pink button-flowered one - I found out its name recently...it's called 'Mei Kyo'.

This was from 'Art Shades', Angie - some of the colours have been lovely, but the really orange ones look sooooo much better in my back garden with the purple and white flowers!
Thanks, Jac! The photo without the flash just wasn't as good!

Yes, I think this weather is everywhere in the UK today!

Don't worry, Labdancer - this Wyevale that Louise and I both frequent is normally excellent! It's such a shame that the assistant was wrong this time - we've both had good advice there, and the care they give to their plants is also usually good - let alone the displays!!!! They are very, very tempting. :-))

Yes - most of the leaves on the new Ash tree, which had turned deep- red for the first time, are lying on the grass. :-(( At least I got a photo of it a few days ago!
The whole garden looks buried in leaves again. LOTS of raking to do!

No, really, I just caught sight of the time on the PC - the weather is so bad, I should leave a few extra minutes to get to church - it's an exposed road along the coast!
P.S. Thank goodness the 'real' Ian's back! Hated that red person picture! Sooorrrryyy......

This branch of Wyevale is a really good one. They have a copy of the RHS A-Z in their Plant Centre Info. place, as well as loads of other ref. books. It's a great shame that this (usually) knowledgeable assistant didn't check up first, before anwering you, Louise!
We are only human, and we are not walking encyclopaedias! How were you to know, with all the Ilex confusion there is?
I've asked questions in there before, when I've seen a great plant - and they've used the net to find out!
I really think you should take it back and complain.

i was brought up as a strict Methodist, Angie - there was no alcohol in the house at all. I've never had any - so I don't miss it!

Well, the worms seem to be special ones - they don't transfer to the soil. I shall have to ask a question about exactly why they're only to be found in manure! I do get worms in the compost bin, though, don't you?
The manure, once it has rotted down, you wouldn't know was there in the soil, Angie - and it's GREAT for your plants!
So stop shuddering, and try it! ;-)))

Have you seen the forecast? Not good at all! I suppose it couldn't last, could it. October was such a lovely month this year!

I was amazed, I have to say. I might have expected berries, but not flowers.
On photo - Flowers at this time of year?
It was the Nursery owner who told me that - he and his wife actually grow their plants - they don't buy them in from Holland!
On photo - Chrysogonum virginianum
I'd be lucky if I ever got to see it, Jane! LOL.
I've only seen one once in my whole life....about 5 years ago, now, when we moved to Somerset. SUCH an experience! Now I'd really love to see one in my own garden! What a thrill that would be.......
On blog - A lovely spring day ..for autumn.
If you have a minute, there's a close-up photo on page 9
(I think) of 'my garden' under 'Pyrus salicifolia'.

Oh - cruelty to dumb plants! Poor holly! I had a 'Red Robin' but it was straggly, and although I pruned it back, it didn't ever look good - so it's gone. I really like 'Palette'. You don't often see it, do you!
On blog - 'Berry' nice!
Thanks. I wish I knew their name, though!

Well done! Blogs are always more interesting with photos - and it's nice to see your garden here! :-))
