Island(s) in the sun!

You’ve made such lovely comments about the plants in the flower bed I made in June – and asked to see the whole bed – so here it is!

from the garden room end

from the summer house

down the length

You can see that there’s too much Persicaria ‘Red Dragon’ in it!

Down one side by the poplar trees

Oops! I should have cleared up the dead leaves!

Turn round the other way

the right hand side

Now you can see the summer flowers still blooming happily!

Standing back – and taking it all in

Here it is against the background of the stream wall and more of the garden.

There you are! My island in the sun… (shame it wasn’t shining!)

I'm amazed how in a few months you've turned a grassed area into this gorgeous bed, I see the obelisk too!

See, now that's just fab - so much more impressive than individual pics of certain plants ,lovely though they were. And so full, even though you only did it four and a half months ago, max. Brilliant.

Stunning Spritz, just gorgeous. ;~))

Love your island Spritz and as Bamboo has said only four months old, I can see your Verbina in the foreground it looks Fab.. I also planted a Persicaria in my new border, Ive cut it back all summer or it would of took over, it looks amazing when the sun shines through the leave's, ive also took cuttings and they sprouted roots within days, there planted up now so if anyone is interested i have 5 lol..

I have written blogs about the bed in previous months, though, Bamboo - in June when I started it, and in August when you can see the whole bed as it was then! It's amazing how much it's filled out, even since then!

Yes, Ydd - there's too much Persicaria - it'll have to be cut back and some plants taken out. It is a great plant, though!

Looks flurishing and very pretty

I didn't see those blogs, Spritz, mostly because I hadn't realised about the favourites thing - now I know when people have written something, before it was just fluke if I found something! I might well have a look at those blogs tomorrow, but I'm off to watch Auf Wedersiehn (sp?) Pet (again!)

Simply putting it Spritz that is stunning.

It's gorgeous Spritz. Good to see the sum of all the parts

13 Oct, 2009

Spritz it looks amazing from all sides, I love to see a full flowerbed and yours certainly is.............

13 Oct, 2009

it's looking fantastic Spritz :))) I love Red Dragon even if it is a wee beastie LOL

14 Oct, 2009

Just so lovely - it's amazing how quickly everything grew. Love the planting choices - that last photo shows just how great the new bed fits in with the surrounding garden area. Great work!

14 Oct, 2009

It looks great Spritz, so well established :-)

14 Oct, 2009

Just wonderful.

14 Oct, 2009

It must have exceeded even your wildest dreams, Spritz. See what you mean about the Anthemis, lol. I hope mine does as well next year - it's still flowering its sox off this year.

You have worked so hard on it Barbara and been rewarded with another lovely area .
I'm going to have to move some of my Persicaria before it smothers other plants , I do love it though ........

Well it takes your breath away (funny for me to say that!)
Its fantastic I absolutely love such gorgeous big beds and so overflowing with lovely plants. Its enough to make a gardener drool. There has been a lot of hard work involved there. Congratulations.

14 Oct, 2009

Thanks - there was! I just love it, though. Is that boastful? I hope not. I haven't had the chance of creating an area completely in this garden before - it's all been altering parts of beds here and there....

14 Oct, 2009

No, its not boastful Spritz - you can say you love something you've done (I love my newly decorated and revamped hallway, and I did it and constantly say it to people). If you didn't love it, you'd alter it until you did anyway, that's what its all about, surely;-)

14 Oct, 2009

I don`t consider it boastful either Spritz. Its called being proud of your own work and there is nothing wrong with that.........

14 Oct, 2009

Hmm, now there I might differ from you Lincslass - there's a world of difference between loving something and the dreadful "proud" word;-)

14 Oct, 2009

yes that dragon does need a trim but not too soon, but the bed looks stunning and you must be so pleased with it.
who's a clever girl then? :o)

14 Oct, 2009

Its absolutely beautiful. You obviously have 'the gift' :o)

14 Oct, 2009

Its really something to be very proud of Spritzhenry I love it

14 Oct, 2009

Definitely not boasting Spritz!
Justified satisfaction at a job well done!!

14 Oct, 2009

Dear Spritz,
Fabulous, I keep going back for more looks; good job you don't charge!! I am so much in admiration for all the work you have put in. I say work but I don't consider gardenining "work" just pure enjoyment!! I am guessing you do too!! Love Sue xx

14 Oct, 2009

Thanks - it has and is giving me great pleasure! You're right, Sue...only leaf raking is 'work' after I've been doing a lot of it! lol.

15 Oct, 2009

wow its just like i imagined barbara, so pretty and so full in such a short time, its lovely and well done, deffernatly your island in the sun :o) thanx for putting some full pics up

15 Oct, 2009

It looks wonderful Spritz, could have been there for years, have recently bought P red dragon didnt realize it got that big!! you have a beautiful garden, and like me you love being in it, we spent all day in ours moving plants around and putting in bulbs, you have the same obelisk as me......great minds!! lol

17 Oct, 2009

We obviously have good taste, Dd!! LOL.

17 Oct, 2009

But of course.......

17 Oct, 2009

It's really love - much bigger I think than the previous pictures showed.

18 Oct, 2009

That's because some of the plants have overflowed!! My husband runs them over with the lawnmower. :-((

18 Oct, 2009

This is magnificent Spritz. You have a wonderful garden there and it must bring you a lot of joy.....

Very impressive, sun or no sun!

18 Oct, 2009

Many thanks, Ob....it's not here today, either! Well - a chink maybe....:-))

19 Oct, 2009

At least if the plants are overflowing you can't see if the lawn needs edging. :<)

19 Oct, 2009

Oh yes I can, Wagger! The grass pokes up through the plants - and it's too damp to cut properly. :-((

I did have a go last week, and it looked a bit better. Now, though - husband cut all the grass today, ALL the edges need clipping! (my job). No chance. It takes a whole day to do - and the forecast is for rain tomorrow!

19 Oct, 2009

If you had a miner's headlamp you could get out there and do it this evening, Spritz!

19 Oct, 2009

Haha. Thanks for the idea - but no thanks!! lol.

19 Oct, 2009

I would - rather do that than cook and wash up any day.

19 Oct, 2009

Ah, but it's husband's turn to cook! Haha....Too cold out there, now. Brrrrr.....

19 Oct, 2009

Sigh......lovely :-)

19 Oct, 2009

:-))

19 Oct, 2009

The elements really work well together: thanks for putting it all together! Isn't the word you want to use "chuffed"?! (I'm learning so much on GoY!)

19 Oct, 2009

lol Orgratis - you're right about the chuffed, and Spritz has every right to feel it, in spades;-)

19 Oct, 2009

Not a word I use, but it does express what I feel, yes! lol.

Thanks, Bamboo. Did you find time to look at the earlier blogs, by the way??

19 Oct, 2009

I'd forgotten - will try to remember tomorrow! Been occupied with a couple of contentious items on the site tonight...

19 Oct, 2009

Errrr....yes. :-((

19 Oct, 2009

One of which has resolved, I note, and hopefully the other one will now, too.

19 Oct, 2009

Yes agree with all the comments Barbara, it all looks beautiful.

20 Oct, 2009

Thanks, Docbob! :-)
