Hi Guys
hope your all well, just though i would do a quick blog on my birthday which was saturday, iv decided im counting backward now lol at 52 years old.
Well we were suppose to go out for a meal but after alot of upset on friday with older son, which is far to much to bore anyone with i became ill with my IBS, full blown attack and ended up in bed right through my birthday, still look 9 months gone but at least the awfull pains in my legs have gone now.
so just need to rest and keep takeing the meds.
Anyway had a visit from my brother and sister-in-law who brought me a lovely plant arrangment and card, artist carol from art society came to see me with a set of canvas`s and some muscari bulbs in pots, plus card, and my lovely Baz some beautifull flowers and chocs, almost gone lol, joe says card and pressie on way, he got my date of birth mixed up, bless him, so intelligent but head in clouds most of the time but he did call me.
Nothing of johnny not even a call, there you go.
So once im better we are going for a nice meal and im also going out to lunch with sister and siter-in-law.
Anyway wont forget this birthday in a hurry, going to have a lay down now, IBS really knocks it out of you.
a few photos of the nice things about my birthday

sun shinning today so at least that cheers me up, hope your all having a sunshine day to :o))) x

I think your orange-berried plant may be a Jerusalem Cherry/Christmas/Winter Cherry (Solanum pseudocapsicum) ... poisonous to humans and pets so put it well away from Casper! ... Take care ... :o)

22 Jan, 2012

Rotten birthday but lovely prezzies! The plant is a winter cherry, some sort of solanum, forget the variety. Don't let it dry out as I did mine as I was unwell too - and once the leaves have wilted they don't seem to pick up again like some do. Hope you soon feel much much better and able to go out for that belated meal.

22 Jan, 2012

Happy birthday from me, too, Sandra. You poor thing, IBS is an absolute B****r. I know. Totally stress-related. Who's been eating all your chocolates, then? The flowers are gorgeous, so someone cares.....
Try to think beautiful and calming thoughts and de-stress your body and your inner self...:o))))) Maybe laughing along with GoY will help.

22 Jan, 2012

Oh Sandra.....not on your birthday. :o(((
I hope you feel a bit better by tomorrow. Us mums with sons have to remind the little dears of our birthdays. When they live away from home they forget. My Barry forgets to remind them.........so I phone them myself then phone again. My present and card is usually in the post. I get nice Christmas presents from them.....they remember that date!!!!!!!
Best Wishes Linda xx

Best wishes for 2012. Must be some thing going around as I just came out of hospital yesterday after being admitted with urinary infection that got into my bloodstream. Let the snow come and go and all start again.

I think we should go back to the old way of starting a new year in the spring - much more positive. You could say goodbye to the bad weather, coughs and colds and the old year at the same time.

Gattina i havent tried that either but not keen on hazelnuts only in cake lol, hope you find some ;o)) x

1 Mar, 2012

I know I'm late Sandra, but have you tried FODMAP? If you google it you'll find all about it. I saw a program and the woman had been hospitalised twice with ibs and was desperate for help and they gave her a FODMAP list which excludes certain foods, then lets you include them gradually so you find your triggers. It certainly helped her and anything's worth a try I should think:-)
I hope your son has been in touch, but if not, he'll probably come round in his own time. He's hopefully feeling guilty by now:-)

3 Mar, 2012

hi BA and thankyou for your info, iv just found out one of my trigger foods, its bread, even though i had been eating wholemeal, the small slices to, but sometimes up to 6 slices a day, love toast haha
anyway a friend told me to try not to eat it and if i had to, just a slice and had to be that whole grain, i find that ok but im even better without, no bloating, so thats one thing.
will check out FODMAP thanx BA :o))

4 Mar, 2012

Hey Sanbaz, just thought I'm pretty sure my godmothers husband suffers with IBS (not 100% it is IBS though). He cut out wheat alltogether and found that he wasn't suffering as much. If bread is a trigger, could wheat/gluten in general be a trigger? If its the gluten, you can still eat bread and pasta, you just need the gluten free kind. Most supermarkets now stock gluten free products and gluten free flour.

4 Mar, 2012

Daughter has coeliac disease, and we/she thought it was the end of the world when we had to start cooking for a diet without flour, pasta, bread, cereals, etc. It's all so much easier these days, but you still have to be careful about hidden dangers in processed food, which is why we always cook from scratch. She inherited it through OH's family, but I have developed diverticulitis (so the doctors say) but it is feeling mightily like IBS. (Saturday was an agonising, sobbing nightmare) I hate the idea, but maybe I should give up bread, too. I've already cut out the gorgeous, fresh, warm, fragrant wholemeal type(boohoo) and yesterday was fruit/vegetable/bread/alcohol-free. Instead of just teaching people how to cook gluten-free food and doing demonstrations and courses, I am maybe going to have to start following one myself.

5 Mar, 2012

hi sam i did try that once over and i was the same so its not that, but thanx for trying :o))
Gattina, even though bread stops be bloating, trigger things are red meat for sure as red meats doesnt diggest the same ,infact it rots which isnt good in your tum even if you dont have IBS.
so i really try not to have red meat. also fats, like i love my chicken stock gravy but doesnt like me :o((
dairy isnt good to much either, so i tend to do little now and again. not alot of rich things.
but the pain generaly comes with stress, a huge trigger for IBS sufferers.
very carefull what i eat when i travel abroad to, never eat off street sellers etc.
its a trial and error thing for everyone with ant bowel complaint, each person is different, even specialists dont know exactly what causes it fully.
i dont drink and havent since year 2000, when i had bowel cancer, also i have recently given up smoking, whats left haha shall i give up breathing to lol

5 Mar, 2012

Ho hum, worth a thought eh.

Good for you giving up smoking. Sounds like you don't have many vices left, I'd keep those you've got left (including breathing and gardening lol).

5 Mar, 2012

I still have the very occasional glass of alcohol, but it's a small one and infrequent, and my system seems ever less able to cope. I don't really miss it, but drinking wine "in a country where the grape is grown", as Shirley Valentine says, is one of life's little pleasures, and there aren't too many of those left. I smoked for a year when I was young and silly and wanted to look grown-up. Can't afford much red meat, but I do enjoy butter. On my bread.

5 Mar, 2012

gattina im going away on saturday to tenerife and i will have maybe an odd glass of sangria as i quite enjoy that, but only one each evening as it goes right to my head lol
i love cheese but dare not eat that when im away, had some a couple of years ago, goats cheese and it was yummy but it made me so ill, never again, taking it easy this time :o))

6 Mar, 2012

sam i dont have many vices left, infact i may go live in a convent soon hahaha :o))

6 Mar, 2012

I still have bread....love toast as you say....:0). But I changed my breakfast cereal to oats with oat milk ( like soya milk but doesn,t give me flatulence ) not only is my digestion better but so is the sinusitis.
Have a really lovely holiday Sandra..you deserve it.xxx

6 Mar, 2012

Hi Pam, not heard of oat milk, do you get that from health shop?
maybe i will try it Pam, i guess its not fattning, also is it still good for bones like cows milk, i have skimmed so no fat but healthy on bones. :o)) cant wait to go now woohoo xx

6 Mar, 2012

Never come across oat milk. Wouldn't be any good for coeliacs, though. Has anyone tried this new milk that's had the lactose extracted? Anything that helps my chronic sinusitis is fine with me!

6 Mar, 2012

Hmmm convent, well it would certainly be a change of pace :)))

I've never heard of oat milk Gattina, whats it like, taste wise that is? My mum started having rice milk on her porridge oats. Its quite strange when your used to cows milk, so much sweeter. Lovely with porridge though.

6 Mar, 2012

I buy it from Tesco in the uht milk aisle, near the soya, rice etc.....new one on tv last night was almond milk... not for me I don't like nuts!
Oat milk.....inventively called 'Oatly' low fat, contains calcium and is very good at lowering cholesterol, Soya milk ( beans!) was having an unfortunate effect but oat milk on my cereals....muesli or porage is fine, a bit odd to drink neat though!
teaspoon of Manuka honey every day has helped the sinus too Gattina

7 Mar, 2012

You lucky people with your vast range of supermarket products! We get soya milk and milk milk. Not even fully skimmed available unless as UHT. We get local honey or expensive honey. No-one would know what manuka was. Maybe in the big city shops it might be available, but Italians quite often have the attitude that home-grown is best, why import stuff? (Not an unworthy point of view)

7 Mar, 2012

Oat milk is lovely, I have it every morning with oatbran, banana and grapes...lovely.....and it's great for lowering cholesterol...well so it says lol:-)

7 Mar, 2012

My daughter is an IBS sufferer, had it since a child, hers is dairy products, she cannot have anything with dairy in it, means all ingredients have to be checked, soya milk, goats cheese are always on the shopping list, now she has a very bad form of arthritis so is on meds and injections that cause a lot of problems, what suits one condition is aggravating to the other, I know from her experience that stress can be a major factor in causing flare ups of both, its a vicious circle.

7 Mar, 2012

will try that Pam when i get back from hols and love manuka honey so good for you :o))
Gattina your right i always have probs getting semi skimmed fresh milk never mind skimmed when on hols and i cant stand that UHT, awfull :o(
sue i remeber you telling me about your daughter, so sorry its cause arthur, but like you say its trial and error with medication to, i get fed up with it, i cant even have things from health shop, meaning capsols of anything healthy as i always get terrible bloating and pain first day on them, so think its the capsol not always whats in it, but dont waste my money at health shops now.
i feel for her sue x
