We have just got another cat after several years without any pets. Like most cats she eats grass, & tucks into the grass weeds on the patio.
We used used to kill these weeds off with Resolva, but I don't think it would be good for her to eat the weeds treated with that!
Does anyone know a 'safe' weed killer - that we could use - incase she decides to have a chew when we have just done it.
Difficult to watch her all the time!!!
In the meantime our patio is beginning to look very neglected!!! But I would rather have a weedy patio than a dead cat!!:(

We find that hand weeding with a weeding knife is best for our patio. Using a weedkiller leaves a lot of unsightly dead weeds between the slabs whilst hand weeding is instant.

I use a Weed wand Flame gun for places like that. Burn the top growth down and leave it to dry then go back and burn it off again and brush away the ashes.

As well as the above 2 suggestions there is a wire brush tool on end of a pole that you can scratch stuff from between pavings. Have to admit grass not so easy to scratch as some weeds. Wolf tools do one that goes on a multitool pole that is sold, in I think, 3 lengths. Saves bending or kneeling, but mind your wrists when you first use it. I wouldn't be without it.

Hi Shirlwhirl, going on from Dorjac suggestions if you look on the garden tools page, there is a photo of mine when I bought it. I find mine great for paving and no bending to do it. Cost about £6

There is a grass seed for grass that's specially suitable for cats who live indoors to stop them eating houseplants. Perhaps if you were to grow some in a trough the cat would find it nicer than the stuff growing between the slabs?

Thanks to everyone for suggestions.
The only thing, weeding with knife etc is very difficult on our patio bulbaholic, because it is so irregular being cravy paving!! ... and I don't think my knees would be up to it!!!:(
Wand flame sounds a very good idea owdboggy, but we don't have one of those...... yet!!
The brush thing might be worth a try thanks dorjac.
Salt might be good too noseypotter.
Thanks one & all.

your more than welcome Shirlwhirl . i have a dog run and know lawn but i soon had to build a concrete head with grass in the top of its head to save my acers . it does the trick to a degree so steragram has a very good point . the thing is also is as long as its from the grass family you can put different colour and types of grass in a trough or what ever and it will look quit nice to .
