Which is the best county in the UK in which to grow herbs climatically speaking - I say Suffolk - to settle a light hearted argument.....:)

It depends on the herb and what conditions it grows best in. Mediterranean herbs like thyme, rosemary and oregano prefer gritty warm conditions and full sun and not waterlogged soil, but things like marjoram like shade. I live on the garden Isle and you can grow pretty much anything here herb wise and it is warmer than Suffolk! lol

Well of course Andrea quite right - providing the right conditions essential and for many the sunnier the better so the south of the UK should win out.

There are some notable exceptions though - the National Thyme collection is in .. Northumberland and the west coast of Scotland ( presumably warmed by gulf stream )has some beautiful collections.
