I am being given a crown of rhubarb by my nephew, he says i should leave it on top of the ground for the winter, is this correct? What preparation should i give the ground.

Yes I've heard this, also as it has enormous roots it needs deep fertile soil.

It's apt to dry out in a severe frost,The reason leaving on top is done is to force it in late winter early spring. It will weaken the crown and further production from the crown will be weak. I would plant it now as Heron says in deep rich soil. Do not try to force it this year.

How do I say thanks?
