All fall in the river!!

Once upon a time (last Sunday really!) David and I decided to take the pups on a river Avon walk (the bit near Easton Grey.)
It wasn’t as cold as it is today, thank goodness because 2 out of 3 dogs fell in (see photos!) Luckily we were far enough from the wear so as not to drown the poor wee pups and now we know…they can swim!

Here goes the first one, Jazzypup. ‘Come on Jazz, follow David out of the river, this way’….

Ooops! There was a bit of a shelf!

Up for air!

She clung onto the bank just in from of a huge bush which hubby had to fight through to pull the shivering Jazz out!

And now for the Sluggy Pup, she always makes us giggle..She was trying to stand on a slippery branch, she fell in twice!

Try again Sluggypup……..

YAY! Did it…………

Ooooooops (well she said something worse!)

Apart from dogs falling in, it was a lovely walk. Sluggy found a Moorhen in the bank and pulled it out. David thought it was dead or in shock. I thought it may be playing dead……

We left it on the bank, called the dogs away, turned our backs….and off it swam!
Some pics of the bank

And hubby, waiting patiently while I shout ‘just one more photograph!’

As we were about at the car hubby says, we’re just popping to the pub to see mate. Oh great I think…cold, wet, smelly dogs. Can’t leave them in the car as Sluggy will jump over back seat and nestle wetly in the front seat. bad idea I think! Well first hubby ties them to an outside table (really silly idea)…cold, wet, smelly and howling dogs which any moment will drag the outside table into the pub! Me, feeling sorry for them (and pretending that Sluggy isn’t really in season and that there really isn’t a big black but very old and apparently incapable Lab, also in the pub) I bring them in.
Whereupon Sluggy (the black Lab having fallen i love with Jazz, bless) but Sluggy starts acting as if she’s fallen into a box of frogs. Hormonal I wonder? Puppyish behaviour? Surely she has grown out of that……thank goodness we go home!
Sluggy is still acting strangely at home too. Bouncing straight up in the air and wiping paws on the carpet and crying. When all 3 start to do it we ring the vet (on no! not on a Sunday!) Thank goodness this happened to another dog the previous day.‘Have you any Piriton?’ Nope. Well, they have an allergic reaction, possibly to something put on the field on the way to and back from the river. They needed a cortizone injection which, thanks to our local horse vet who lives a mile away we got virtually for free. And all was well! Luckily!

Thank goodness you have a local friendly vet, I know about vets fee`s, can be very costly especially weekends and holidays.
Love the pics, had a chuckle at Sluggypup straddling the tree trunk, really funny, that was a very crafty Moorhen..

We only took them around the local woods and fields. They got very muddy and David threatened to hose them down, they were very happy to find the hose still frozen up!
