Fun in the Sun

Grey days and sunny days this week. The pups and I have spent hours in the garden!
The only part I haven’t worked on is the extention on the rockery. Seeing the amount of limestone that gets dug out of the flower beds there will be no shortage of stones, they are piled up all over the flower beds waiting to be repositioned!

I managed to mow the lawn, at last, that fantastic, evocative smell of mown grass!

I even did the edges! I see in this flower bed there are some daylilies clumping up nicely. Can anyone please tell me when is the best time to divide them!

This is the patio bed. Hours of work removing the hundreds of wild stawberries that were just looking messy! I can’t eat strawbs and David doesn’t really like them so I didn’t really see the point in having kilos of strawbs every year!

This is a shot of the patio from upstairs, soon it will be a blaze of colour!

Pups on the patio!!

Ladybird on a rock!

Dear Sluggy pup helping me dig! I had to remove several large rocks to give my 9cm pot of Iris Flight of Butterflies a chance to put down some roots!

These are the rocks I had to dig up. here they will wait until I get around to the rockery!

Then it was doggie walking time and time to say hello to the mares and their babies.

And off into the woods, I came across this huge Sycamore where someone had built a ladder and platform. I did climb up but it wasn’t too stable!

On the way home I popped into the garden studio to see what I felt about my new mosaic ideas…

I think I will make this parrot mosaic 2×2″ as a micro mosaic

Lots of foxgloves clumped together, oh dear poor Magnolia. Not sure when/how to remove these either!

To finish off the day I moved Millies house, she likes to be near us so this is as close as I can get her!!

And last but not least, some lovely spring coloures!!

And still SO much more to do, move, weed etc etc. I am certainly putting off the turf removal around some large shrubs as I know just how difficult it will be because of the stones!
Hope you all have had a lovely sunny day too, I hear tonight it will be rain!!

You have been busy again, Lulu - I love your curved patio bed and how nice of Sluggy pup to give a hand! I don't think I would have trusted that platform in the woods, it does look a bit precarious :)

Brilliant parrott mosaic, the colours are stunning.

Lulu, you've done a great job cutting your lawn and all the borders are trimmed to perfection....lots of effort there!

I'm glad you gave that platform a miss....just from looking at the photo it does look a bit dodgy and unstable!

The pups are well accommodated on their patio rug and moving Millie's house/hutch so near to your patio door is real progress.....so happy pooches and happy kitty too.

Your photo of the "natural" mosaic (above the parrot photo) is especially appealing to me....I like the colours very much...let's see a finished photo when you're all done, Lulu.

Lovely to see your wonderful spacious garden Lulu and all the hard work you've been putting in is going to pay off big time! I thought you'd be at the races all week....good for you, doing your own thing! :)

Thank you girls for your comments on this huge garden! It's almost too big for me now!!
Races tomorrow Karen! Thank goodness I didn't go today as I got to bed at 5am!! I just hope it's a lovely sunny day tomorrow like today but I hear we may have rain tonight, which will be good for all those Iris's I planted today!
Yes that ladder and platform were a little risky! Hope they haven't harmed the tree by nailing into it?
Gee, NO! Sluggy is so not a help! But it's kinda cute!!

worn me out reading it lulu, lots going on there and the pups are so helpful lol, going to be lovely come summer, foxgloves i just try to remove all old leaves but if you see there are baby plants near big one then dig them out and plant else where, think you could split daylillies now before they flower or wait till after, dont think it matters lulu.

Ok that's my w/end job then dividing!
Teds all the bits I find on the beach, in rivers, charity shops and stalls. The stained glass I have to buy though and it's very expensive!

your garden is looking lovely lulu, you've worked really hard.

17 Mar, 2011

Yes, lots of hard work, but it's fun really, isn't it?! :)) Love the little foals.

17 Mar, 2011

Lulu, this blog has just about everything! Love the foals as much as the garden. I love the blue flower in the first mosaic, such a gorgeous colour. Just mentioned Cheltenham to OH and he says to ask if the cake stalls still sell the 'Cheltenham Double Dribbler' ? It's a type of Lardy cake that the Irish used to enjoy apparently! Can you imagine the calories in one of those? lol ... Enjoy the races tomorrow. : o ))

Your flower beds are coming along nicely. They will look a picture in the summer time :)
I don't like strawbs either - yach ! can't stand the things lol
Nice to see all dogs enjoying too :o) and to see another mosaic taking shape.

How do you manage to fit it all in Lulu ? Your garden is enormous and what with your mosaics and animals as well you must be kept very busy.

Your dogs are lovely - I love how they all snuggle up together.

Let's hope we get some more sunny days - happy gardening.

17 Mar, 2011

They are very snuggelly dogs Mariek! And yes, it's a busy time of year! I will find out in a couple of weeks whether I have a stall at a 3 day Cheltenham race meeting, if I do, I will be very busy indeed!
I shall have to have a look for the Lardy cake Shirley, will let you know!
I think the dogs were getting a little bored Hywel! I can almost hear them sigh when I get my gerdening kit together!

17 Mar, 2011
