Gurth, the Sophora is a great plant because its foliage and flowers are both attractive.

Louise, please could you tell me a little about the Sophora ? I'm trying to make a blue and yellow border, the Sophora has caught my eye. Have Googled it, not very good info. unless you know the type ! : o )

the yellow is lovely.

Thank you all :-))

Megan, the Sophora is S. microphylla 'Sun King'.
It likes a very well drained-dry soil and full sun (I have mine in very poor soil in a south facing position), it's hardy and evergreen and grows to about 10'.
The gorgeous yellow pea-like flowers are produced in late winter and spring and in a previous garden it flowered in the summer aswell as then !

LOL Great !
I have a Camellia who needs telling to wake up !!!
It's in the back garden and its buds are just about to open, but it's very behind the front garden - where all the activity is !!!

Great blog Louise. I love sophora, I used to grow one and it survived but I can't say it thrived so I took it out in the end. Yours looks absolutely lovely!

Louise, many thanks for the Sophora info. .. have just looked it up in the RHS A-Z (which is the heaviest gardening book ever !) and shall be on the lookout for one. Thanks to Spritz I'm also after a Pulsatilla ... this site is so informative. : o ) ) )

The sophora was going around everywhere - very fashionable - a couple of years ago...well perhaps 5 or 6 years ago now! but I'm sure you'll still get it in the GC. I agree though, about the site! I've had loads of inspiration from everyone and am so glad I found it!

17 Apr, 2010

Oh, I'm always behind times in gardening fashions ... : o ) )

17 Apr, 2010

Me too,Megan .lol.In fact, I have never heard of Sophora before, but its lovely.
Thanks for the info for it Louise, and will be adding it to my never ending list...

Lovely healthy looking aphids, Louise - they're up and about early down your way - like all your lovely flowers. I've got a whole tulip out, all the others are still in tight bud. :-(((

17 Apr, 2010

Hi Louise..our camellia still in bud too..despite being fed in Feb..oops another casualty !

17 Apr, 2010

great pics Louise and your garden looks so colourful.....very nice indeed!

17 Apr, 2010

Wagger, come and visit and i'll send you away with a nice supply of aphids .... i'll send all the ladybirds too, too many aphids for them to eat though :-(
It's queer how your tulips are in bud but you've other things blooming ahead of the rest of us !!!
My camellia's in tight bud - 2 have started to swell - it's much later than usual though.
Thanks Bb and Ob !

I can't explain the dicentra - it's the only thing that is early! It's pretty ancient - perhaps like me it can't sleep well. My camellia buds aren't showing a scrap of colour yet.

18 Apr, 2010

Lovely photos of lovely flowers - and I particularly like the Sophora, too. I think i may be looking for one.....

My 'Little Beauty' were all eaten by the dratted badgers, so I'll just have to admire yours, Louise!

Thanks Holly and David :-))

19 Apr, 2010

it's all looking great Louise.. My Sophora has still only got buds on it, but I think I need to try and move it, as it's in the wrong place

20 Apr, 2010

Where do you have yours, Grindle ?

20 Apr, 2010

it's by a 4ft fence, SE facing, but it gets hit with the wind and really needs to be more sheltered, I'm just hoping it will move ok in the Autumn

21 Apr, 2010

Ah, it should move okay, do you have to leave it 'til then ?
Couldn't you shift it now and keep it well watered ..... maybe you're more patient than i am ;-)

21 Apr, 2010

not sure as it's starting to flower, thought autumn might be a better option, and I can see better where I can put it

21 Apr, 2010

Oh wise one ;-))
