Enjoy!

What a giggle! I now have a mental picture of a hen walking in a very strange fashion and sitting down as much as possible!

Oh lord Penny...that is maybe a triple yolker or a very big chick would have emerged from that one...goodness..she is a keeper for sure if she lays beauty's like that..does she often lay large eggs? What sort of chicken is she..? we now need to see her next to her egg...please..lol

Well, I ate the egg - it was a double yolker with two huge yolks - it was delicious.
Penny is a standard 'rhodestar' hybrid layer - I havnt managed to get a photo of her yet as she wont stay still!

I think the double yolk was a one off as she has only just started laying.

wow thats a big egg!!! i used to get eggs from a lady who worked with hubby they were beautiful eggs and often got a double yolker, apparently young hens lay double yolkers? Pullets are they?

9 Mar, 2009

Eggstraordinary that must have been no yolk to lay that one!

You are right Sewingkilla, young hens are called pullets and hopefully in a week or so my two Speckeldys' will also start laying - so maybe more double yolkers !!

No more whoppers so far Cat , double ones are a rare treat.

Some hens lay then regularly..a friend of mine used to give me cartons of eggs and most all of them were doubles..it was just the way the hen layed them...
