Bargain of the year

Being the right place at the right time does not often happen to me but yesterday was the exception.
A visit to my local Wilks found two members of staff tipping all there remaining spring bulbs into a large wooden container on the shop floor being told they all have to go 1p per packet, they are not unusual varieties but appear in good condition for this late in the year, there were hundreds to be had but restricted myself to nine after all I have to find somewhere to plant them (can almost hear Karen telling me she has space) lol

Nine pence for thirteen pounds worth that’s what I call a bargain.

Oh my word! You read my mind BJs!! Whitewell purple crocus is my favourite crocus of all!! I did manage to get some this year. If you remember, i had them in a circle all around my little octagonal greenhouse in the old garden. Wow, what a bargain! Well done!

...ooh, now with zoom I can see they are not actually Whitewell purple....but look very similar. :)

Lucky you BJS! I also bought some at our Wilko this week at half price. When I got to the till they were actually quarter price, still good, but not as good as a penny! Like you I need to find somewhere to plant them, if this rain will stop!

You lucky thing, never had a bargain as good as that.....

That was VERY good luck!

I once got a couple of trays of Pansies at Wilkos that had been reduced to half price - well 2 X 1 - when I got to the till I was told they had been reduced further & if I'd like some more - who could say no to that! Of course I wanted more! Ended up with 4 trays of Pansies & all in good shape as well!

Sounds like a bargain. If I ever run out of space, I'll just go to the nearest public park and plant in random places.

Bathgate that's an interesting thought not something you see done in my part of the world, groups of Narcissus certainly would brighten things up in spring, don't get me wrong many areas are planted by local councils but at present they have little money to maintain open areas so doubt they will make new plantings, not sure If individuals plant in other parts of the country.

The Scots thriftiness is catching Bjs lol. I'm sure most schools would put excess bulbs to good use. Many now encourage children to grow and what better way of encouraging bees etc to pollinate the apple trees and other fruits.
