those last three are really pretty but they are all lovely

I'm toiling to find any favourites here :)
Beautiful, one and all Brian. What do you line your wooden troughs with Brian. Are they made from deck boards?
Last question, promise :) Do you remove all the foliage from the Hepaticas. I picked on up the other week (inspired by your previous pictures) - there are plenty buds on it and I notice your one above doesn't have many leaves.

Very nice Brian, looks really tidy. Nice yellow snowdrop.

Scottish
Wooden troughs are not lined there are gaps between the bottom boards and a layer of broken pieces of polystyrene to stop the compost falling through
Yes it is decking boards
The white Hepatica has been visited by a mouse who removed leaves and flowers has also chewed off more than half the buds on a soldenella in the same trough.he will have a big surprise if he returns.
when I post part two you will better see how the leaves should be.

Super. Particularly lioke the 'established' trough of cyclamen and crocus.

I think an alpine house would be a joy...yours certainly is! Did you make your own troughs Brian? They look wooden? I guess they last ages out of the weather and well-drained.

Karen the troughs are straight forward to make they are screwed together with the same screws you used lay a decking.

Possibly should have said they are not planted at random half the trough the plants need a summer baking the others need cool in summer, theses will be taken out of the house end of May and kept in the shade till end of August.

Another set of beauties, what a grand selection and the happiness it must bring on the most terrible of days to pop into the glasshouse to see all of these lovely flowers....

These are lovely. Good point you make about planting things that like the same growing conditions together. What are the strappy green leaves growing in the cyclamen pot?

Scotsgran they are mainly the Snowdrop that half filled it in October Regina Olgae, same as the ones you took home the other day.

They were drooping a bit by the time we got home but are looking fine now. Should I move them in to a bigger pot where any seed might fall as there is at least one nice big seed pod. Our visit was too short as usual. I should bring a tape recorder so I can be reminded of the instructions. At the end of May I now know that they can go outside for the summer. I got very excited yesterday because I have one yellow iris reticulata flowering in a pot outside. I will go and see if it has opened in the sun some more so I can get a photograph of it.

How many pots of snowdrops did you take home i think 2 ? was the one with seed pod named Galatea if so plant it in the garden.

14 Mar, 2013

Yes I did bring home two, one the Regina Olgae and the other Galatea. I will check in the morning and see which has the seed pod and if it is Galatea I will plant it in the garden. I'll put the Regina Olgae in the stone planter/fish box which you gave me. I don't want to lose track of it.
