Time and Tide

Hello again everyone!
If any of you have been away from your garden for any length of time, you will be only too aware of what happens. NATURE TAKES OVER!!
Having managed in early autumn to clear extra space to extend the fernery, I was able to split some large clumps of Hemerocallis and make room for some choice new ones. Then, I inadvertently found a way to compete with my computer; I was hit by a mystery virus. The only good things to come out of it were that my computer and I are now on speaking terms, having developed an uncertain kind of empathy, and I have lost 2 stone in weight. Wouldn’t recommend this particular diet, by the way!
Consequently my garden has what a good friend called ‘an unkempt neatness’. He has a way with words! I prefer to call it a ‘bloody mess’ but even so, it has a certain ‘je ne sais quois’. Left to themselves, the daylilies are burgeoning, the ferns are rampant, and things are emerging that I never knew I had!
Although I have managed to extricate the majority of ‘plants growing where they aren’t wanted’ i.e weeds, on the southwest side I don’t intend to worry about it too much at this stage. The northeast border is also flourishing, supporting a strange miscellany of dubious ‘companion plants’. Last year’s dead stems will soon be disguised by the mass of currently unchecked greenery, and all will be well. What the eye doesn’t see…etc.
Watch this space. There may be more daylilies in the offing later. They are all doing extremely well, even the slow growers. I apologise for the lack of pics, but my photo Wizard has turned up its toes.
Good to be back. I’ve missed you all, but quite honestly my heart wasn’t in it for a while. Lots and lots of comments and observations PLEASE!!

Hello BBB.....I've been wondering where you'd got to. Great to have you back now you've surfaced from that now semi- tamed wilderness of yours. What a bonus that you managed to lose weight in the process! I hope it was the computer that had the virus and not you. My Watsonias are looking a little sad but I'm hoping they're going to make it.

Well BBB ... we've both been away ... & it's good to be back & see you returning too.

Love your rhetoric! Brilliant! Hope you get back on top of your lovely garden ... the day lillies you sent me have survived my fumbling attempts all winter to look after them & are growing with a vigour only Spring can produce!

I took a load of photos for a blog but my Photo Wizard said poo to you too & I lost the lot! Will try again at the weekend when the sun is out ... or so we are promised!!

Wondered where you`d gone Bbb, sorry you`ve been unwell, some of these darn virus`s can really take a long while to get out of ones system, hopefully you`ll soon be back on form completely..My lillies are doing marvellously, can`t wait to see them in bloom.
Pleased to see you back, take care and enjoy your gardening.....

Hello. It's nice to hear from you again. Sorry to hear you haven't been well, but I hope you're much better now. I think the daylily you sent me has died :o(( Sorry.

Thankyou for your kind comments. It's good to be back among you.
Lily, your Watsonias will look a bit sad at this time of year. It's quite a while before their flowering period.
Hywel, Daylilies are very hard to kill, a bit like yours truly. Can't remember which one I sent you, but it may be a late flowering one and still be dormant. If in doubt, be drastic and dig it up and see what you've got. If there are signs of life, replant it somewhere else and wait. Make sure there are no air pockets within the roots. If it's mush,it's dead, most likely from water freezing round the roots. Will send you another or two later on.

I have the name 'somewhere safe' - it was something pooh. I've found a small green bit in one pot but nothing on the other one.

So glad you're feeling well enough now to rejoin us - I've really missed your 'Friday night burbles'. 'Je ne sais quois' is good - a more relaxed way of gardening, lol. Hemerocallis 'Summer Wine' is doing very well though a little bit nibbled by slugs so it's now protected by it's very own copper ring. I do hope you get your Wizard working again soon. xxx

Glad to see you back BBB - I wondered where you'd gone! My three lilies are looking extremely healthy after their harsh winter bashing - can't wait to see them bloom! Hope you're now blooming?
