What can be more breathtaking on a cold, wet December day, than the sight of Helleborus niger lighting up the darkest corner of the garden like a string of glowing lanterns. Just the usual white Christmas Rose, but what a joy to see it….:o))

What a lot of great comments...thanks everyone....:)))

This is the first year that these have had so many flowers....I'm thinking it may be the amount of rain last year, or just that they have established themselves well now. I've noticed where a few of the leaves have bent down to the soil, they have taken root, so more new plants....:)))

Readbythepond....it is native to the mountainous regions of northern europe so would be used to very low temperatures, though prefers a sheltered place away from freezing winds. You could give them a try and see what happens. When these have finished flowering, maybe I could send you some seeds over??

Aw, sorry Karen and Stroller....I am a bit greedy....:)))

Happy New Year everyone.....let's hope we have a drier gardening year this year!!! XX

Happy New Year Ba, I think they take 3 years before they flower....:((. I haven't seen Tet on here for ages, I hope she's okay???
Thanks Stera....yes I love them all, I think the coloured types flower a bit later, so something to look forward too....:))
They are a picture Balc.....normally the corner where they are is drab and colourless in winter but these really bring it alive, and right behind, Mahonia Charity, with it's yellow blossom spikes just beginning to flower....:))

That corner must look fabulous now! :-))
