**CONSERVATORIES.......SHOW AND TELL**

AFTER READING SEABURNS BLOG ON HER CONSERVATORY, I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE FUN TO FIND OUT WHAT EVERYONE ELSE IS KEEPING IN THEIRS….

OURS WAS BUILT MAINLY TO KEEP PLANTS IN, ALSO TO ENTERTAIN, WE USE IT TO SERVE TEAS WHEN WE OPEN THE GARDEN DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS, WHEN THE PLANTS GO OUT SIDE WE HAVE A LOT MORE ROOM TO SIT IN COMFORTABLY…..

WE DO USE IT EVERY DAY TO HAVE OUR MEALS IN, IT IS NOW USING THE HEAT WHICH IS DRIFTING IN FROM THE LOG BURNER IN THE OTHER ROOM!! SO MUCH SO, THAT THE PELARGONIUMS HAVE BEEN BANISHED TO THE SPARE BEDROOM, THEY WOULD NOT STOP GROWING, AND THEY NEED TO REST!!
SO THIS IS WHAT WE HAVE IN OURS….A COUPLE OF STATUES WHICH ARE NOT FROST PROOF…..BIT OF A PAIN, BECAUSE THE ONE IS VERY HEAVY!!

AS YOU CAN TELL THERE ARE PLANTS WAITING TO BE PLANTED, PLUG PLANTS, TENDER PLANTS, PLANTS THAT LOOK LIKE DEAD STICKS!! SOMEONE REPOTTED A LOVELY STANDARD HELIOTROPE AND LEFT IT OUTSIDE IN THE FROST LOL!! ……THE CANNAS WILL BE BROUGHT IN SOON TO GET ESTABLISHED AND PERHAPS SOME DAHLIAS…..WHO KNOWS?
AND DID YOU SPOT WHAT IS HIDING BEHIND THE YUCCA? MEDICINAL OF COURSE!!

SO NOW YOU KNOW WHATS IN OURS AS THEY SAY JUST A BIT OF FUN!!

Looks very inviting....sigh...I miss my conservatory!

Yours looks so warm and welcoming, feel as if I have been in there with you now! Your garden looks beautiful through the windows at the end.

Our conservatory is very small. It has a little round cane table in there and two chairs. Also there is a laundry basket with a lid where we store some logs! The main plant out there is a jasmine which seems very happy and gives us lots of flowers and lots and of scent quite early in the year. I have also brought in some pots of bulbs because mice were attacking them and spoiling them!

When the family were here over New Year and the house was very full, the conservatory became a pantry and general store cupboard so it is very versatile when it has to be!

Your Conservatory looks lovely and tidy dd! Does the wood burner really keep it that warm from the other room? I'd be very interested to know, as our conservatory isn't heated... We live in a Bungalow which originally was a 'U' shape. We had the Conservatory built up in the middle of the 'U' , which was originally a decked patio area. OH has been saying for ages that he'd like a woodburner in the Sitting Room/Dining Room I've resisted until now but if it helps to warm up the conservatory during this time of year - I might change my mind! I don't have many plants in there at this time of year because it's a little cool! ;o)

They do give off a terrific heat PetalTracey. Our heating broke down yesterday, bt the log burner can heat our whole house if we open all the doors, and its one of the smaller ones.

Ours is tiny compared to yours. I have a few cacti and succulents, a fuchsia or two, a Hoya bella and a pelargonium. The other stuff that would normally be there is in a wall house outside with my fingers crossed. The other pelargoniums got left outside too long ... I have tried to cut down on overwintering stuff this year.
We have two chairs and two small tables but the middle is kept clear as I sometimes do my tai chi practice in there when its warm enough.. It faces south so is nice to sit and read or have coffee in the winter on sunny days.

The floor tends to fill up with seed trays in the spring.

Yours looks fab Dd2 the plants are loving it...i bet it is fab to have an extra bit of space when the family visit. Our is full of plants in the winter. It also doubles as our larder as Wildrose said. Although we are fitting a wood burner this year so maybe it will be warm enough to sit in next winter..oh wait no it will be full if plants...lol

Always store logs for a wood burner for 2 years before burning.

15 Jan, 2017

Diane we try to buy seasoned logs, more expensive I know!
Sandra I don't know what we would do without this space to store our tender plants, we also have a porch full of cuttings!
Stera although I begrudged losing a large chunk of the garden, it needed to be a good size! we have too many tender plants, and no greenhouse! we try to cut down on overwintering stuff, but plants grow larger every year!lol
K our burner is only a small one, it does heat the kitchen and the upstairs bedroom thankfully, but not the front of the house....
Petal we have been really pleased with ours, oh resisted for years!! we wanted a modern free standing one, we are very much into Danish design.........but our room was just not large enough unfortunately, so it it was built into the fire recess.......and it gives out a tremendous amount of heat, will pm you!
Wildrose It is so lovely in the Summer it's like sitting in the garden, we wanted folding doors originally, but, they take up valuable space, when folded back! and as you say so useful when the family come over...
Karen, do you not have room to build one on perhaps?
Thanks all for taking the time to comment.......stay warm and snug...

I bet it's lovely and snug in there in the winter, more of an extra room really. You do not have a wall between your conservatory and the back house sitting room do you?
Ours faces North East, is about 24ft but narrow except at the eating end, has 2 patio doors into the garden, and 3 other doors. Too cold to live in the winter and not tidy like yours!

I have always wanted a conservatory! Now too old for upheaval but if we ever moved a conservatory would be a priority.

Love yours DottieD: so inviting!

15 Jan, 2017

Yours looks gorgeous Dotty - you have made it into a lovely, inviting place. (I've always wanted one, but make do with a chair in my greenhouse :))

Thanks for the info Karen and Angela - We had a 2 hour power cut here on Friday 13th...! It was freezing inside and snowing outside...! Our heating system runs on oil - I cook etc., with electric as we have no gas here... Perhaps it's at times like this I should relent!

this looks lovely dd2 and very functional. I often do tea and cakes in here when we have friends over.

15 Jan, 2017

It looks wonderful. It took years for me to get a green house.....I may not live long enough to get a conservatory.

15 Jan, 2017

Oh Linda never give up hope!! a wish list is what you need!!
Seaburn thanks, it has to be functional, we often swap the table for the sofa in the summertime, so even cosier...
Petal, so many of my friends had power cuts this winter, luckily most had log burners!
Sheila my better half would love a greenhouse, no room! no room she cried!! glad you like our cosy room...
You are never too old Eirlys, it was fairly straightforward ?

Sue it has had a clean, and a tidy, it gets one, once a month!

15 Jan, 2017

Have you all electric folk thought of having a bottled gas cooker? You can always cook and make a hot drink even in a long power cut. Wouldn't be without it! the bottles are out of site down the side of the house.

15 Jan, 2017

I have to agree that conservatories were made for plants.I don't have one(never have ,in fact) but, if I did, I would surely fill it with plants like yours!

15 Jan, 2017

Good thinking Stera!!
Paul, it's always about the plants in this house!! always has been, and always will be !!:-):-)

16 Jan, 2017

Sheilabub: That made me laugh! I had forgotten doing the same when I was younger.

I would have plants, and butterflies hatching in our conservatory.

16 Jan, 2017

Looks very bright and cheerful. I love the large architectural plants. Do I see a jade plant? I love that one. My cat, Costello, knocked my huge pelargonium off the table and made it small again. Now it fits perfectly in its space.

17 Jan, 2017

Hi Dotty... that looks tidy ! Added to GoYpedia.

19 Jan, 2017

Bathgate yes you do see a Jade plant......had it many years now...
Hello TT thanks it had a tidy up before I took the photos lol!!

19 Jan, 2017

Thanks for the info Steragram! After living here 18 years with Oil for heating and Electric for everything else...! I think it's about time we invested in a camping gas stove of some sort...!!! It would at least make us a hot drink ;o)

19 Jan, 2017

Tracey, I've always cooked on a gas stove. It's so much more enjoyable then electric stove. I use my flame broiler for everything.

19 Jan, 2017

Petal sorry I didn't get around to Pmmming you........it was only to say we are so pleased we put this log burner in, it does not save us any money, more a luxury really, but so comforting and very much hyggelig!! which we are very much into........

19 Jan, 2017

Thank you for a lovely new word DD - had to look it up. It sounds just ideal.

19 Jan, 2017

You are welcome Stera, when we got married over 53 years ago we were very much in to Danish living, our entire bungalow was furnished in the Danish style from the china, the cutlery, the furniture and the beds, and now it seems it it has all come back, a pity I hardly have anything left, a couple of glasses and a lid from a Dansk coffee pot!! and a few dinner plates....

19 Jan, 2017

A new word for me too - I googled it, lol.
Your conservatory looks very inviting.
Mine is used for dining & reading & sitting & watching the birds plus of course some plants that are resting just now.
I have a panel heater in there as we use it a lot. We put the tree in there & have our Christmas meal, it's pretty with the fairy lights on but not as tidy as yours.

The woodburner is an old one in the sitting room & I wouldn't be without it as you say we leave doors open to let the heat through.
