I have a surprise :) LUCY (Photo & UPDATE)

31 comments

Some of you will know how long hubby and I have been considering getting another pussycat….well…guess who’s a happy bunny. We brought her home today.

I would love to be able to put up a photo of her that I have taken but she is at the moment in hiding under one of our reclining chairs in the lounge. I’ve added a photo of her taken at the CPL shelter.

She was as quiet as can be coming home in the car which was quite different for us. Our previous kitty hated the catbox or the car journey and would cry/meow very loudly. We will have to give her time to adjust and just take it a bit at a time…I keep looking to the corner of the lounge in anticipation of Lucy making her appearance.

UPDATE….

I’ll keep you posted on progress. Lucy is 3 yrs. old and as of late last night (on her first day with us) she did come out from hiding under the bed in “her” room and we’ve had cuddles (lots of purring), she’s eating/drinking, using the litter tray and obviously still easily startled. She won’t entertain hubby so I guess she’s thinking I’m top mommy :)

As I cuddled her this morning in my arms she slowly worked her way up towards my face and on the wall behind me was a mirror….was she surprised when she discovered her reflection….oh, if I had a picture…

She decided enough was enough and gently got down on the floor again and had a nice wash. This is all feeling so right!

That's lovely Whistonlass - let us know how everything goes :):):) Just for the record taking hamster home first day she was making squawking noises - settled down first day though :)

She's lovely ! I'm sure she'll settle in when she gets used to being with you.
I'll be looking forward to seeing and hearing more of her :o)
My cat had been named 'Abigail' lol but that reminded me of a sheep :(
And I wanted a welsh name for her anyway, so I changed it to 'Blodyn'.
She screamed all the way home in the car (40 miles lol) and still screams every time I have to take her in it :O

I`ve had a look Whiston and she is a very pretty cat, I know from experience that she will soon settle in, looking forward to seeing lots of pics of lovely Lucy......

Welcome Lucy, hope you soon feel brave enough to venture out, you will have a very safe and loving home, and we all would love to see a picture of you;0)

She's been relocated to the spare room now with some encouragement from hubby. I've put her litter tray, food/water and a snuggly blanket in an upturned box for a bed.

She's made for the little room adjoining with a bed she can hide under. I've shut the door and hope by morning she is a bit more settled. Love her already. I got a brief cuddle before putting her into the spare room and she did purr :)

Thank you for all the kind comments....I know what you mean about changing the name, Hywel....a howling cat for 40 miles makes for a rather trying journey. Hope you don't have to do many vet journeys!

Lucy is lovely just had a look at her, she will settle in no time with her new family. I think a pet makes a house a home! Welcome Lucy, I hope she is better at getting up than Basil.

I really hope she will settle...I've moved her food and water very near to the bed she is hiding under...she won't come out when called so I've left her alone to adjust.

Shirley...I've added catnip to my growing list of plants :)
and I agree Teds...a pet makes a house a home....it's what I have missed now for too many years since losing our last cat, Sheba, 5 yrs. ago.

All the comments are so welcoming...if Lucy could meow her thanks without a little tremble...well I'm certain she would. x

What good news Jacquie - new kittens are lovely aren't they ? I look forward to seeing some pics of her.

Thanks for the kind comment, Marie. Lucy is 3 yrs. old but she is quite petite...maybe will fill out a bit as she matures but I was really surprised how big and heavy most of the cats were that we saw. Our last cat was a very small lady all her life and perhaps Lucy will be tiny too. We shall see....she's so pretty :)

She's now coming out to me in the room where we have her (she's been hiding under the bed there for a few hours). She came to me and seemed to like nudging against my hand and legs as I sat and talked gently to her. She allowed me to pick her up and stroke her, purring her little heart out...aww She's not eating much but she had a big drink of water.

I think we'll get on fine. I'll do my best to get some photos very soon...don't want to distress her so will take my time.

Congratulations!! Off to look at the pic now!

Oh, what a shame, I was too late...never mind, I shall look forward to your pics!

There you go, Karen....I've been able to amend the original post to update and include a photo of my little companion.

I hope as the days go on I'll be able to get some of my own photos but I don't want to startle her when she's just getting used to us...I'll have to catch her unawares and snap away :)

Lucy looks contented in that photo Whiston and if she is purring when you are near her thats a good sign. Our oldest cat is a tabby, Tipsy we call her, visitors think she`s a youngster because she is so tiny but in actual fact she is 11yrs old,eats as much as the others mind and is very healthy,she`s just a small cat.....

17 Mar, 2011

Great news! She's settling in well! :)

17 Mar, 2011

She's gorgeous Jacquie !

18 Mar, 2011

Nice to read your update. I'm pleased everything is going smoothly :o)

19 Mar, 2011

Thanks, Hywel...kitty people unite :) We're expecting the 4 noisy, full of energy grandkids to visit this weekend....I think Lucy will get a bit scatty around that visit so I'm expecting a bit of regressive behaviour for a bit after they've been. Although they have been told to come up the stairs quietly (haha)...they usually come bounding up the stairs with a great commotion loudly announcing their arrival with the word..."nana....grandpa....we're here"
~~~ Oh really....didn't realize you'd arrived...lol....(as if!)
19 Mar, 2011
Nice that they are like that :o)
19 Mar, 2011
And....they're here.....and they came up the stairs in their usual bounding manner.
We're currently drawing names out of a bowl to see how we'll take each grandchild in to meet Lucy....now...just to find Lucy who is probably in hiding in her little room. Gently does it...lol
I think little ones just don't know how to "do" quiet...lol
19 Mar, 2011
She looks like such a lovely kitty :) Its so nice having them around and purrrrry. I'm glad shes settling in well :)
She is lovely. How did she get on with the grandchildren. I know what you mean when you say they don't know how to do quiet. My little granddaughter and I were out in the car last week. As usual she was chatting away at the top of her voice and then she said "Oh Oh I'm talking too much you had better switch me off" I pretended to switch her off and she whispered in a stage whisper that could have been heard at the back of the Albert Hall, "Can you still hear me?" She loves animals and we used to have to stop her rushing up to every dog she met to 'just give it a cuddle'. Her other gran got her a dog on wheels which goes everywhere with her.
21 Mar, 2011
SGran...lol...I'll have to try the "switch off" routine although I think I'd have about the same success rate as you...zilch! lol
Lucy was hiding all the time the grandkids were here but I did let them into her room with me and they lay on the ground (a couple at a time) and saw, touched her and spoke softly to her even though she stayed under the bed in the spare room.
This morning she is more relaxed and has even been up on me, cuddling, purring and wanting petting so things are looking very good. She's sleeping now....such a hard life eh?
21 Mar, 2011
She knows a good thing when she sees it obviously.
23 Mar, 2011
Yes, you are right there, Scotsgran. She's relocated from hiding/sleeping in the spare room and has taken up residence behind our sofa, under the warm radiator. She's had her 2nd injection today so she's been a bit quiet. Love her to bits :)
