And so to bed!

As you will know if you have been following my ‘literary efforts’ I have been removing a 1m deep strip of grass from both sides of the ‘lawn’, [moss, speedwell, buttercups and some grass but shush dont tell OH as he’d be out with the feed and weed].
So this blog is the progress of the wall side of the garden.

Turf was de-soiled and popped in the compost bin, I need as much soil as possible, as 3" down is builders subsoil.

I dug in more homemade compost and 200litres of shop bought compost too.

I then lifted some plants that were struggling for space in the original border and planted up with many of my buys from Reighton. Not to mention plants I have been buying over the last few months and cossetting on the back path.

I am focusing on white, pinks and blue in this border and there are 3 different Monardas and Salvias as well as Verbenna rigida, V hastata rosea and alba. Hopefully V bonariensis has survived the winter, not certain though.

I planted 52 new plants and lifted and planted 10 exisiting plants. Now all I need is rain to save me having to take the watering can out twice a day.

As plants grow and develop I will be taking photos and am eagerly await developments.

I like it, it is looking good, hope it keeps growing for you. Looks to be doing ok. Curves are easier than straight, I never can get straight edges properly it just doesn't happen for me.

we are forecast rain for the weekend, but i am so glad i didnt put the bedding plants out as we had a hard frost yesterday where the temps dropped to 0 in the greenhouse and even colder outside.

I have a bed to the side of the drive that is a real hotchpotch of plants. ones that i want to grow but dont really know where to grow them. So I know what you mean Bloomer.
thanks for the offer of lavertera but i have lots in pots waiting to to in too Sueb.

Well you've certainly improved that border - it looks so much better - and will look even better when your plants have grown.

Ok Sbg. ;O)

Another case of 'the incredible shrinking lawn'. Will watch developments with interest - already looking good.

5 May, 2011

I dont think it will shrink much more if at all. :o)

5 May, 2011

Tell me that again next year, lol.

{the wall isnt straight and I cant cut straight so gentle curves seemed easiest :o)}
I prefer the "rustic" look as well and for the same reasons :-)
Don't worry about the rest of the lawn, Sbg, ours shrank to zero many years ago - it does happen.

Its going to look lovely once the new plants have grown in, Well done on all the hard work. :o))

It's going to improve as the season progresses and the plants fill out. It will be worth all your hard work.

I've stared at your lawn and cant see any sign of all the buttercups etc. One of these days I'll post a close up of mine that will make you feel yours is perfect! Be interesting to do a species count one of these days. Your neat work is so impressive - and your cosseted plants will be so happy to be planted in the ground in such a lovely border.

You've done a very good job, SBG! It's already looking OK! In a couple of months it will look so much better & will look as if they have always been there.
