My Succulents and cacti shed
Posted on 12 Mar, 2009 19 comments
I spent the day facing up to the devistation the frost has done to my succulents and cacti. I run a small nursery specialising in them. The morning was spent throwing out the plants that have died… The afternoon was better as i now have space to start potting on the survivors. As usual i had my trusty helpers Ruby Reggie and Blodwyn my little family of terriers.

All in all, From your photos things seem to be doing okay. Hope your losses weren't too bad! So far the only thing I know I've lost is a parsley plant. : ) Big deal!

If you are a gardener, you always push nature, don't you. This year, she pushed back - and we have all lost plants, sadly.
I still have to face up to my losses, Sandra, and decide what to do about replacing or substituting.
It does look as though at least you have some that are doing well. :-) I've seen ONE ladybird - I agree, it was great to see him!

I push the limits of hardiness with what I grow so I'm definitely expecting casualties after this past winter. But so far, it's not been as bad as I feared

That's good to hear, Andrew!
My next problem is my Erigerons. In the side garden, they look very dead with no small plants coming on underneath. I shall just have to grit my teeth and dig them out.:-(

Yes I enjoyed the photos Sandra. You have some nice cacti. Sorry to hear you lost some in the winter I. I haven't looked at my succulents yet.

i find plants just a few feet apart from each other do so differently. a little less wind or a bit more sun can afect the way a plant grows. some of my aeoniums outside did better than those wrapped up inside....

That's strange. But I think succulents like a free flow of air. I have some succulents in the garage covered in bubble wrap. Maybe I'll look tomorrow.
