Hi Ickledigga read your blog and is this near the area that people kindly ! disposed of their rubbish before you moved in? Did you find any glass near this site possibly old brown bottle glass? Have you been digging near the site could be an old broken bottle of potassium permanganate. Gardeners used to pour this mixture on lawns to kill earthworms those tiny little wrigglers could be young earthworms, cant think what else in nature produdes a purple pool.

As I haven't a clue, I shall be silly and remind older members of the song 'It was a one-eyed one-horned purple people eater' Sorry Ickle, I hope that someone else will be able to help - I just couldn't resist it! P.S. Hope it doesn't eat you!
