I have 2 medler trees which are 6 years old . the leaves are all dropping off and they do not look very healthy . I planted them in the garden in oct . after growing them in big pots . they were a bit rootbound so i loosenes some roots before planting .

Slow growing, the Medlar (Mespilus) is a relative of the pear, and resents being transplanted. Your trees are obviously suffering from transplant shock, aggravated by the loosening of the roots. Sometimes it is necessary to ignore the normal horticultural rules of thumb. All you can do is shelter them from strong winds, provide shelter and support if necessary, and wait. Do not feed, or allow the soil to dry out.
