I'm waiting for some Ulster Prince that my dad recommended (an old variety) and my main stay this year will be Desiree. I grew these last year and had a very good return.

Try visiting this site for a brief description of about 150 varieties of potato. I find it to be a very useful reference.

I love floury potatoes....the secret is, after lightly boiling for 5 mins or so, pour most of the water out of the pot....turn the heat to its lowest point...put the lid on tight and steam until cooked....lovely...:>)

The varieties that you grew were of a 'flowery' texture and these do fall appart. They are prefered by some people and the the most popular in Scotland.
We are exceptional here in that we prefer the firmer 'waxy' varieties. The following are what I have just ordered for this year, all are waxy.
1st - Maris Bard
1st - Colleen
2nd - Carlingford
2nd - Cosmos
main -Milva
main -Cara
main -Valor
main -Robinta
These have been ordered from the 'Organic gardening Catalogue'.
