Wild Snapdragon 2

Very tall and more plant than the garden cultivar, It was one of the first wild flowers to really fascinate me here.

They are lovely aren't they? They are commonly known as 'Butter and Eggs' here.....AKA Toadflax which is not such a great name. Linaria vulgaria.

Very beautiful Gt......when we lived in Spain one of the first Spring wild flowers to bloom was a weeny pink Toadflax, it could be found everywhere, in old wall cracks and road edges, very tall but a tiny flower. Yours is much larger, but arent they diverse....up here in Alaska and in the Mediterranean regions, they've adapted well to the different conditions.....:o)

Thank you for the info Gilli. I think I'd heard that name when they were first introduced to me, but had forgotten. I've seen those tiny ones other places, Janey. They fascinate me. Our wild things are usually monster size, with all the sun. I hadn't realize snapdragon was another of those 'worldwide' plants.

I loved them when met them in an old Mr Bybee's garden as a child. My favorite smell that he grew. I think I was 8 or 9.

I used to love playing with the flowers.....opening and closing the "jaws". Ok....I'll admit it.......I still do that. LOL

I like to open the jaws for the bee's :-)

I did just read in the paper this is one fo the invasive weeds to watch for.:-( I was sad to read that. The neighbor has them cultivated in the beds.
