The plant label that came with this plug says "The snail Begonia" that could be because of the pattern. I did have a bigger one of these from a garden centre, it was in the middle of the bottom tier on the display at last years show, i thought at the time it was too big - but looking back at the picture of the display I think it looks a goodplant.

My word, how remarkable. Is it a rare begonia, Mark? I have never seen one before.

You're convincing, Mark. Will have to look for this. Just bought four tubers of a double yellow....can't wait. When the time is right, may I plant them directly into my garden or should I keep them in the pot and just sink it into the soil? I'm planting them in my front garden under a shady maple.

Xela: I don't think it's a rare one, i ordered the plug on line from Dibleys nurseries.
Lori: I find that the double tuberous Begonias are fine outside if they are shaded (otherwise the sun burns the leaves). Personally i tend to leave mine in pots, but Stan, another grower, does plant his direct in the garden and has some lovely displays there. I think it's a personal choice, as long as the frost is passed and they are rescued before it returns.

To add to the last comment i made: I know the sun burns the leaves on the plants i have, but there are varieties of Begonias that are for garden growing, which may well be fine in sunshine. I don't tend to grow those myself, so i don't know much about them but i believe multiflora is one example.
The double tuberous show plants must have become more delicate as people have bred them for show!
