I like Aechmeas. Wouldn't you know, I grow all of mine outdoors, where they make a nice woodland plant.

I bet they look great amongst a woodland.

I bet they do, what a sight that would be..
That's not really a flower is it...the flowers are the darker pink buds?

It's a bract Jane which the flowers sit in.

Penny,

It looks really good. My plant which is in the ground under the huge Jacaranda tree is flowering, also. It's been there for years and flowers every year or other year in late summer. The stems take about two years before they flower.

Thank you Andy you ll have to place a photo on. I thought they only flowered once from the the one funnel leaf as I had one back in the very early 1980s which flowered then the funnel stared to die off but there was a new off shoot growing from the side

Penny,

Yes, the stem only flowers once, and then it will produces several stems and it takes about two years before the new stems will flower again. I think my plant under the Jacaranda tree has 6 or 7 stems. Only one stem is flowering now, sometimes there's two.

Wow that is a big one its nice to even get a flower just wish we could grow them out doors like you can they do grow in heated green houses here. They have one in the Palm house in Jephson gardens Leamington Spa not far from where I live just one bus ride way.

Lemington Spa looks like a wonderful place!

Yes, Aechmea becomes a pretty big clump in time. I'll post a pic of my plant with flowers in the ground under the Jacaranda tree tonight.

It is a beautiful town too with a lovely river park lined with weeping willow trees we played there as kids. Its known as Royal Leamington Spa regency style building s Andy with the Royal pump rooms which is also a museum where Queen Victoria visited I go there as often as I can.

When I get time to find and sort my photos of it l will do a blog for you even inside the Palm house too. The gardens are Jephson garden s named after a Doctor I live in a Jephson house😊.
