Pretty combination, what's behind it?

What's a "scree" bed?

My scree bed is a shallow layer of soil and gravel on top of the (very) old bridge which is stone built and carries the path from the gate to the house, over the stream which goes through the garden. Only Alpines with shallow roots will grow there, of course. I took the photo from above, looking down.

I'll bet that bed is beautiful. This flower sure is! Thanks for explaining.
