Eight-spotted Forester on my Hand

Eight-spotted Forester on my Hand

I had just wiped my sweaty forehead with my hand and when I offered it to this little moth he didn't think twice about stepping on ! Check out the wild red leg warmers ! This moth uses grapevines and Virginia Creeper for its host plants. It's a common day-flier although this is the first time I've ever seen one.

Speaking of Virginia Creeper...I have discovered some little metallic green beetles eating the sprouts on my VC...What have I got Diohio?

Do you have a pic Lori? When you say green metallic the first thing that comes to mind is the Six-spotted Tiger Beetle....but they're not tiny.

I noticed the little beetles when I was up on a ladder cleaning the gutters! Sorry but my camera was not at hand... I'm also ashamed to admit that I didn't take time to photograph them...but I did take time to squish them...hope it was the right thing to do...I'm sure there are more out there maybe it will be dry tomorrow and I can get a pic to post.

Posted a pic, Diohio...have seen them quite plentiful...but enough time has gone by that the VC is making a recoup...I have VC in two different areas and both had the beetles. Don't know if the holey foliage was the work of the beetle or a larva..All I could find on the web was flea beetles but these are too large to be flea beetles.
