i am writing this to all the snails and slugs out there. stay out of my garden pleaseeeeeeeeee. loads of your comrades were killed today, you may have seen their bodies on the roof of my shed and in my wheelie bin. stay away unless you want to join them.
To all the GOY bloggers, i waged war today on the snails and slugs, i put down pellets, first time i have ever used this stuff. i made sure though that it was safe for animals and other wildlife before i put it down. i honestly have never seen so many of them before , its like a plague lol.. i will check again later under the rims of the plant pots and again in the morning i will do my rounds, look in the usual places for them .

It's the wet weather we had last night that has encouraged the 'orrible little monsters to emerge and seek their dinner....I 'm in the war too! I gather up the dead ones and chuck them in the stream. Heeheehee... I laugh evilly - off they float out to sea!

What gets me, is why do those pesky critters attack us gardeners? Never seem to attack commercial growers as badly as us! Same with cabbage white butterflies

i can stamp on a slug quite happily but i have to throw the snails away as far as i can cant bring myself to harm them not sure why it is not like they think twice of a free for all buffet on my salad and veg! i haven't seen any yet tho so im thinking maybe the chickens are doing a good job for once! Ducks are supposed to be good for clearing slugs without ransacking the garden!

Paul found a huge one in the bag of barbecue briquettes last night and asked what he should do with it. I said it could go anywhere except in our gardens so he hurled it .......... it landed in my geraniums :-(
I told him if he couldn't do better than that to leave it in the middle of the lawn, for the thrushes to collect. I don't like killing any living thing, but I am quite happy to aid nature and her cycle. :-)

I'm lucky enough to have lots of little friends in my garden - frogs and hedgehogs! Even my hostas are slug free. Hoorah for frogs and hedgehogs!

On the other hand, EVERY ONE of my caullis and sprouts had little clusters of butterfly eggs under the leaves this morning - had to go over every plant (about 25) examining under the leaves and rubbing off the eggs.... got back acke now!

Did anybody catch the garlic spray recipe on gardeners world on Friday night? I'm going to give that a try - has anyone else tried that? This year I was going to try to live and let live - so far I'm managing that with the aphids especially now I have seen quite a few hoverflies and wasps as well as birds in my native hedge - but I have broken my vow with regard to slugs and snails - they're onto my sweet peas and have even managed to cross the copper bands round the pots of dahlias in the plastic greenhouse. Aaaaaargh!

I too considered the Gardener's World recipe ...until I had a three-year-old to visit. Having seen a snail he then took great delight in finding all the snails in my garden. They kept him amused all morning. Without prompting, he made them a swimming pool (sadly several drowned!) and in all of the excitement and activity many got trodden on, either by him or the dog! Perhaps this is the answer...borrow a three year old!!
