Agave attenuata - Fox Tail Agave

Agave attenuata - Fox Tail Agave (Agave attenuata - Fox Tail Agave)

I went on a little excursion today in San Deigo's uptown districts of Hill Crest and North Park. Took many plants pics. The first of many pics is the Fox Tail Agave I said I was going to post about a month ago.

This Agave attenuata - Fox Tail Agave is blooming all around town...mostly along the Freeways, it's too dangerous to take a pic along the freeway though. The flower spike on this plant is about 10 feet tall not including the plant itself...which is about 4 1/2 feet tall.

Good picture.
The house in the photo helps give an idea of the height ~

When I saw the thumbnail I thought it was an echium! Wow this is spectacular and so well named... guess I'd need a solarium to grow this indoors right? I'm at 45 degrees North Latitude...lol.

Lori:

It will tolerate temperatures just below freezing for a short period of time. However, prefers a mild-winter climate where temperatures rarely go below freezing.

Lori:

I think it will grow as a house plant in a very well-lit area.

Lori:

Good luck finding this plant!
If you ever make a trip to San Diego, CA...they grow wild every where and produce many hundreds of pups.

Chances are not good, Delonix1, but thanks for posting about them!

Lori:

You may want to try mail order via the internet. It's probably your best bet.
Good luck!
