It's nice to grow plants that encourage the birds.

Hello Alexandre552.
I am learning gardening.
I live in Birmingham, England.
I spent many years in France, when I was young.

Kev.

I think that the seeds must be fresh, Alexandre - were they? If so, be patient. They may take a LOT longer to germinate.

On question - again Mahonia x media

Vous parlez bien l'anglais, mon brave! Je regrette que mon livre non dit pas le temps. I can't say the rest - sorry! Don't water the seeds every day - just keep the compost moist, or the seeds might rot. Adieu!

On question - Mahonia x media

Any plants you get from the seed may not be the same as the parent plant. Mahonia x media is a cross between two different parent plants so your 'children' may revert to one of them.
I hope you can understand this!

Bonsoir et bienvenue a GoY! You need to collect ripe seeds and sow them immediately in the autumn, either in a seed bed outdoors, or in pots. They germinate better if you keep them cold! Avez vous compris, Alexandre? Je ne parle pas bien francais.

You are quite right to say it can become evasive. A friend of mine has it growing in one one of her shrub borders. I think they are all self set from seed from a very fertile parent plant in the next door neighbours garden. Once they geyt their roots intertwined with the main border shrubs they are very difficult to clean out. I do love their heady scent.

thanks Maple, to be honest i did'nt really have room either, it was a bit of an impulse buy that i could not resist while in B & Q a few weeks ago, so i moved a few things around to make some room, but i managed to make plenty of space for it so it should do well here.
