The bird bath was a gift for my Husbands birthday, eight years ago,and was getting very worse for wear..lots of cracks, loss of colour as the winters took their toll..plus the two little birds have had their tiny beaks frosted off..not good,to have any of your bits frosted off :o) ..
so it was time to give it a make over..
Before..

Now,what paint have we got? I know..the masonry stuff,I painted my chimney pot with a few years ago..mmm,will it look garish ? not sure it will look right..but it will fade..to mellow yellow in time..just like the Chimney pot….won’t it? Oh go on then Russell,go for it..and if I don’t like it,it will be your fault !

I can always pretend the birds are yellow hammers..:o)
fade quickly please !

Now that looks really fresh and looks good in front of your plants , it has quite a designer look about it could be a photo from a gardening magazine , and you have all my favorite plants in the background .

Bloomer it looks lovely all fresh and I'm sure the birds appreciate a touch of paint on their frosted off beaks! Well done Russell.

Thank you,Kidsgran..pleased you approve..and that you like the backdrop of the plants..it does seem to tone in with the gravel better than before.. I'm looking at it in a new light, now :o)

Lol,Neellan, and thank you..the birds don't look as though they have been snorting a noxious substance anymore ! so if they are happy,so am I :o))

Hi Bloomer I think it looks lovely too, a real new lease of life
(Any paint left, I could do with a bit myself.....)

If you really want to speed up the ageing is it bio yogurt you paint on?, encourages mosses I think

11 May, 2013

Hi Bloomer, I`m all for a bit of DIY and that looks great it tones in more with the gravel now even the birds look as if they are puffing their chests out asking to be admired.

11 May, 2013

Thanks Pam..we have a fair bit left yet..but I'm eyeing some old pots up now..sorry,or I would have rushed immediately down to yours with some...cheaper than posting the tin these days,I guess ! Lol. and yes,I think it's bio yoghurt you can add,but there again, I eat it all :o)
........
Hi Stroller..thank you..I think it tones in better too..it has filled in all the cracks,so I wonder if it would work as a botox substitute..or a David Dickinson suntan ? Lol ...The birds seem to think so :o))

11 May, 2013

Well done it looks like new now... :))

11 May, 2013

I like the backdrop too, Is that red Astilbe or Heuchera flowering, mine are nowhere near that stage, It must be all the sunshine the other side of the Pennines;0))

11 May, 2013

Lol..I didn't get chance to take a 'before' one ,as I didn't know Russell was going to paint it so soon..but you know what our OH's are like, when they get a project ! :o)

14 May, 2013

That was a job well worth doing and it looks great. The beautiful colours behind it really set it off nicely and it will be much admired.

P.S. Weather here is atrocious again. Rain is hammering down as I write! Meant to be much better tomorrow......I shan't hold my breath!!

14 May, 2013

Thanks Chris,I like it now,,it does seem to blend in better than before..Sorry you have come back to more bad weather..it was appalling here throughout the night, and still the same this morning..looks like a stay indoors day ...so fed up of it..hope it's better for you today..:o)

Looks like a new one Bloomer, jobs a goodun, I have loads of masonry paint yet had never thought of using it to refresh some of my garden features, I have a couple of baths that used to be in my mum and dads garden, they look a bit tired and very weathered so might give it a go, that of course is when this bad spell clears off, also fedup but at least I've caught up with my housework....

15 May, 2013

Thanks Sue..I am really glad it's been done now..and I am going to try it out on a small plastic pot ..to see if it 'takes' ok..if so,I shall do some bigger ones,as I think the colour complements plants better than dark boring green !
My chimney pot has lasted so well, and it's about 3 years since it was done..I expected to see lots of mucky rain streaks on it,but there are none..go for it..I'm sure it will look good on yours too .. post a pic please,if you decide to have a go :o)

15 May, 2013

I use my paint to disguise the manhole cover in my patio but fancy painting some pots now :o))

17 May, 2013

Another good idea,Annie..so many other uses ,and great to see all the ideas for it...:o)

17 May, 2013

I can't help wondering if you replaced their frosted bits?:-)

24 May, 2013
